Bottle Candle - I love burning candles this way

I love burning candles all the time. Each day I have at least one candle burning. Most times it's for the scent. But it's also to help burn off the smoke from my cigarettes. But this is something I started once again. Many years ago back in the 70's people would place a taper candle into the neck opening of a bottle letting the wax drip onto the bottle. I loved that and started it once again. I trim the end of a taper candle then place it into the opening trying to get it to sit straight up so the wax drips evenly. I have to make sure that when I buy them I get them from the dollar store as that's about the only place now days that sells candles that aren't the drip free type. Drip free won't work Duhhh! Hahahaha! Do you remember dripping candles in bottles? Did you ever do that years ago? Do you do it now days? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Half my family love candles, but I am concerned about the fire safety. I am a smoker too (didn't know you were), & my daughter is ALWAYS complaining about the smell. I like your idea of burning candles to help get rid of smoke smell. I don't think I ever dripped candles in bottles.

20 to a pack here in the States. In Canada they come 25 to a pack. And in the land down under how many per pack?

My what a blast from the past. The two of us are of an age where we're from the crazy, Woodstock generation..LOL. Nope can't say I ever did the candle bottle thing though even in my hippie rebellious days, but I do burn a lot of candles now. I do have to be careful with candles though due to my two "children", that is my kitties and no doubt they would knock a bottle candle over..so nope, no can do. :(

Now wait a second. I've told you many many times, you copy from me. HAHAHAHA!! All the time too. Hee hee. J/K I love scented candles. My fave are Vanilla and Cinnamon scented. Most taper candles now days are drip free. Uggghh. I've found ones that drip at various dollar stores though. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I remember my parents doing this with candles. I have thought about it but have never done it. Maybe when I get my own place I will get a couple of bottles and make them candle holders for my end table. Thanks for the reminder of a cute decorating idea Grandpa Bob!

They are awesome looking once the bottle gets completely covered. I use various colors of candles as well to add flavor so to speak. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Wow Garndpa Bob, I forgot all about that. My mom did that a lot in the 70's. I am going to find a bottle and do that because I have never done that myself and I always liked it when she did. Great idea! I'm going to remind my mom about it too.

I hate to admit that I'm old enough to remember that! But candles aren't really good for you. Burning paraffin candles is like burning diesel fuel in your home! The soot produced can cause adverse reactions to those with asthma and allergies and it's bad for children and pets. Now you need to visit my webpage to see a safer alternative! I guess I'm a little young for this because I've never heard of it! It sounds kind of neat though. I'm just a little confused...how does the wax drip into the bottle? Isn't the candle blocking the opening or am I just missing something? LOL

Yes it drips down the sides of the bottle and the main thing you tried to do was to put as many different color candles and intermesh the colors.

I've never done that but I do see them for sale in some stores. Sorry, but if I'm going to pay a ridiculous price for a bottle candle, I'll make it myself.

Hey Grandpa, Are there any types of candles that you use to reduce "smoke odors" that work better than most....I also smoke, but can't stand the "after effects" thanks
