Overwhelming Response!!!

I started a discussion yesterday that I considered pretty run-of-the-mill. I figured I would be lucky to get 7 or 8 responses out of it. Who knew? I received such an outpouring of heartfelt responses from this topic that I really agonized over which responder to award the best response to. I think I went through them all about 3 times before I finally settled on one. This brought up another question: Have you ever felt that you deserved to get the best response from a discussion and were disappointed when you did not?

I wish that we didn't have to choose the best response for any of our discussion. I am grateful to all who respond to my discussions. Never am I disappointed when someone else is chosen for best response. But, I feel that the best response system should be done away with because it can hurt the feelings of others.

I like to recognize what best fit the spirit and idea of my discussion, or whatever solution helps me most with a problem.

I don't think it should be done away with, Elusive. I see nothing wrong with being recognized by your peers when you give a good, thoughtful response.

I still don't understand why we even give a "best response". How often do you notice when someone has received it? I don't even notice the times I get it never mind anyone else. I really don't think it hurts anyones feelings not to get it.

I feel the same as GardenGerty. I don't even care if BR has already been awarded I still give my best anyway. I'm not a mnd reader so there's no way for me to know exactly what the person was looking for. Just because mine or someone else's seemed "best" to me doesn't mean it was "best" to them. When I do get it I feel really good and when I don't, I don't even think about it.

I appreciate your honest response, foxyfire. It is what we should all strive for-to give the best answers that we possibly can.

No, I do not worry about whether or not I earn a best response. I actually have gotten some that I did not think I deserved. I am flattered to receive them, though, and feel good about it.

Believe it or not, GG, I have never even checked to see if I've gotten a best response.

No, I am pretty hard on myself and would never consider my comment to deserve the best response. I am always thrilled when someone chooses mine as the best response. But I always consider the fact that the information I provide, just might not be the information the person is looking for. I have, however, run into the problem of who to give the best response to. Sometimes you get some really great responses and it is so hard to decide.

The choice can be tough at times, Aurone. The discussion I mentioned previously was, I think, the hardest one I ever had to choose.

I really don't worry about it as I figure that I will answer a discussion even if they have already given the best response to the question. I am here to discuss what I can and make a little money and help my friends make some money.

Well, carolscash, it's not high on my list of priorities either. I was just curious about how others feel.

No I never get disappointed about not getting best response, in fact, it's the opposite feeling when I do...I'm genuinely surprised to get it. I often have your dilemma though in trying to choose best response for people who have responded to my discussions though. I sometimes have two or three maybe four that are fantastic and can't decide. But I always rate everyone pluses anyway at least

Yes, pyewacket, I agree that it's only fair to rate the responses as long as they are semi-intelligent.

I get dissapointed when the poster choosed a best response before I even get a change to see the discussion. Some posters seem to choose a best response a few hours after they posted. I think they should give more people a chance, since you can't change it.

I am never disappointed for not selecting my response as the best. I believe there are lot of people here who give the best of opinions and they deserve it. Yes, once I felt that my response will be selected for being the best, but then I did not get it so I left it. No hard feelings. If I ever get selected for the best response, I will definitely be happy.

No it don;t make any sense , only one person can be chosen as the best responder of a question right - so we should not get disappointed even if our response is not the best response , but we should try again and again for that - finally we will be the best .

No. I am amazed when I do get best responses. I just do my best to fully answer the questions. And when I can suggest something, I'll add that too.

i haven't felt that way worldwise. ^__^ because whenever i respond to a discussion, i don't expect the author to make it the best response. however, i really make my responses as interesting as it could be, fun to read and not boring, true to myself, and related to the discussion. ^__^ and besides, its better if i don't expect anything, because i don't like being disappointed in the ends. ^__^ congratulations on having a lot of responses in that discussion of yours! ^__^

Isn't it funny how things work out here on mylot? I've been surprised at the amount of some of my responses to. I have no idea how many "best responses" I have because I never check them. No, I wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't get it. It's all up to the writer who's response sounded best to them.

Hi Worldwise1, I really hate trying to figure out who to give Best Response too! I am just happy that everyone responded to my discussions...I don't mind if I get BR or not...It makes me happy to see when I have but I don't keep track of them...
