Credit cards used to be a very practical piece of plastic to hv when you are travelling. These days credit cards are a 'suicidal weapon'. We then to over use and at the end of the month would be burden with paying back or worst unable to pay back the bank. And the accumulated interests charged by the bank will kill us.

that's funny. i too refer to credit cards as being 'evil'. I had a credit card and i used it all up. Luckily I had a windfall and decided to pay off my card. Since I payed it off (about 5 months ago) I haven't spent above $150 on it and I always pay it back. They're sneaky and evil! I like the advice about if you can't afford it with cash you can't afford it at all. Very sage words.

people need to know that credit cards don't mean additional wages. if they earn $5,000/mo and their cc limit is $5,000, that means they still only have $5,000 to spend, not $10,000!

You are right! If you do not manage your credit card properly, you will get into big troubles and the banks are laughing as they are making millions just on interest alone. However, if you used them well, they can help you during emergency situations where cash is not available or carrying lots of cash could be dangerous.

My husband and I learned a big lesson with regards to having credit cards. Actually, the credit card offered to him didn't need so many requirements for it to be processed. So,one day, my husband came home with his own credit card and a suppplementary card for me. I firmly told him to use it when we have no more choice. Ironically, it was me who made the first purchase. But this was done with a lot of thinking process. We badly needed a manual lawn mower and no matter how hard I tried to save some money to buy one, I couldn't. So, with eyes closed, I purchased that lawn mower.
And when the bill came, plus the high interest and other charges, our problem started. We had no choice but to seek my mother-in-law's financial help to cover the payment of the bill. She did help us but not without speaking her mind.
After the payment was made, we immediately took care of closing the account. We don't need problems like that anymore. Credit cards can be a little scary to handle.

We're so glad that the credit card problem is finally over. As I have told my husband, if we need to buy something, either for ourselves or for the house, we just have to save the money. And no more credit cards for good.

I disagree...People who don't know how to use a credit card should not even apply for one
You use a credit card to purchase things that are within your budget limit, and NOT abuse it to get yourself in debt...
People are just not sensible enough these days, which is sad

Well, if you think about it.....most people are in debt because they spend over what they have...and by being unable to repay back the amount, or extending the period to pay back, they incur interests on their debts. And they have to pay their debts WITH interest...
If they are able to pay off the things they purchase, they would not incur debts nor interest....I always pay my credit card bill on time so that I don't have to owe anyone anymore money....Its that simple..
And thanks for the comment on my avatar.....Yup, its a nice car no doubt....and very expensive one too

I guess that is why we don't have one! lol. That, and we don't earn enough! We do have a plan of use though, and if a bank were to sit down with me, they would see we have a very practical plan that would minimise costs to us.

hi... in Malaysia the banks don't really check your financial background when they offer you a credit card.

If you want to ruin someone, get him a credit card. It is nothing but debt trap. In countries like India, you will be surpirsed it works out more than 40% per annum interest rate which includes, service charge, itnerest, penal interest. Who ever has invented the system, he should be buried 10000 feet below earth.

You are correct, What is chosen is the what makes good or bad. what everyone continues to miss is that Bible says "THE LOVE of money is the root of all evil" not money on its own. Its what that LOVE of money makes you do with it that is wrong or evil.

I don't consider credit cards to be "evil." It's a thing, and inanimant object that doesn't have an agenda of it's own. They are tools, but like any tool if they are used the wrong way they can end up hurting the user. Most people get a credit card and don't keep track of what they spend on it; that's what gets them in trouble. You would have the same problem if you didn't track what you spent out of your checking account, but since the consequences can be put off longer with a credit card, people don't change their behavior in time and get into debt they can't handle.

Very true, credit cards make money an abstraction for some people and when they are unable to see the actual money actually leaving their possession, it doesn't seem real.

Yes, I found that out the hard way. I went 36 years without being sucked in. Then my bank made me an offer I couldn't refuse and also couldn't afford. Now I am in debt. Why does it feel so American to be in debt?

Yes. Credit Cards are "most" evil cards. The original intention of giving these cards are to prevent from carrying hard cash with you. After introduction, slowly the bankers wanted to encash the poor people. They send attractive discount vouchers, gift coupans and other literature. The already tempted person will further be tempted to use it. The credit Card holders always have inclination to use it either by his own intusion or intusion by his family members. The literature sent by the bankers will induce him at one stage to use it and will make him land in trouble.
In my opinion it is better not to have Credit Card at all, because at last it is your money which you will be giving that too with exorbitant rate of interest.

it's really great to have a credit card. but the problem with credit cards is that you will be tempted to buy some things that you really don't need adn sometimes you will have so much debt that you will not realize that you are so many debts and that you will find your self in too much debt. people don't really realize that having a credit card is not really wise. and i think most people are financial adviser will say that you should really not use a credit card at all and they will say that it's really bad to have a credit card. and they say by experience that the only thing thsoe credit cards will do to us is to keep us in debts for the rest of our lives. so i really don't use credit card anymore. i just have to pay by cash. though i really have a credit card but i rarely use them. when i use them i usually pay them at once when i have money. i have heard so many people who are in debt because of the interest of the credit card. thankfully i rarely have need to use that credit card in my purchases. mostly i withdraw money from atm so that i will be able to buy some things. i really have to use that atm more than credit cards.

Actually, most financial advisors would probably tell you that is it s good to have credit cards, just not to use them if you can't pay them off at the end of the month. Having credit cards helps establish a credit history. If you don't have a credit history (or have a bad one)it is much harder to get a loan for a car or a house because the lenders have no idea if you are likely to pay it off or not. When we bought our house, our advisor told us that we should pay off our cards, but then leave the accounts open so that it would improve our debt to credit ratio.

well, to my opinion, modern commerce is using every way to take your money away. Credit card is one of the devils. When using credit card, one might buy lots of things luxury and useless. There are more and more bites in the world for people, someone without iron mind has to pay for it.

The credit card companies have a talent for lying to everyone. They just keep raising the interest and fees until there is no way you can get it paid off. We have not used a credit card for over 15 years now. We learned the hard way.

You have to treat a credit card as a debit card, that is you already have the money in your checking account or can get at it easily. If you do that, you will have no problem. Also it is easier to get a bank loan, but not for poor or low middle class people or even people who are in financial straits and that is the reason why they are charging so much on credit cards.

Credit card is very accessible to us you can use it anytime and anywhere in the world. You have to be responsible so you will not get poor in debt. Once you have a cash just pay it in a cash basis. If not think 100 times to use your card. happy posting my friend:)

I do agree that credit cards can destroy people. My father always said (I'm assuming from his old mistakes) that if you couldn't buy something with cash meant you couldn't afford it and years later I realize he was right. The over-extended credit can ruin a lot of people's lives. It's one thing to have an emergency card or even another one with a small available credit limit just so you can treat yourself once in a while but these credit cards with $10,000-$25,000 credit limits - are crazy. I got caught up in credit card debt and believe me....the credit cards companies are ruthless and the collection agencies are even worse. Cut them up!!

i mthink everything technology offers us have their advantages and disadvantages, but what we make of them determines what they are to us.credit card to me is one of the best opportunity to do business,i dont believe in using a credit card for consumption purpose but for things that will earn money and cover whatever interest charges i may incur,so i guess its a matter of learning to discipline ourselves with the way we use our credit cards lest they become trouble for us.
