I got my first interview from one the of the temporary/holiday jobs I applied for yesterday. It's tommorrow from 11-12pm. I am freaking out right now and trying to read up all that I can on their company and going over my resume and possible questions they might ask.
Aargh I am already nervous - I need a coffee, breathe, I need a coffee LOL
It has been 4-5 years since I last interviewed for a job and I am very nervous.
They said it's going to be an hour long and it's a group interview. Now what does that mean? they are interviewing a group of us altogether?!? I have never heard of a group interview. Has anyone here heard of this?

Hi, I would also think it is a group of people being interviewed at the same time. If that is so ( I am not certain) then at least you won´t be alone.
That should make it easier.
But either way, in a group or alone, you are strong!
You can do it! Just be yourself and everything will turn out well.
Try not to be nervous, just think by yourself :"No problem, if this one does not work, I still have other chances."
This way your not as nervous, because you know there will be other oppertunities to come.
Good luck, take care.

Hi Margajoe, that is exactly what my husband said to me and your right, I was less nervous when I got to the interview. In fact there was no group one as there were only two of us, so we interviewed one-on-one which I was very happy about.
Praise the Lord I got the job :):) thank you for your support my friend~

To start with you need to calm down! I know how you feel since I hadn't worked in over 7 years before I got my little part time job and freaked over the idea of an interview myself. Things have changed a lot and now they have second and third interviews too which I don't understand. It was actually the other way around for me. The second one was the "group" interview. We were all given the little packets and watched a couple of videos...oh such fun! You will do fine I'm sure. I know how tough it is getting back in there but you will do it. Just have faith in yourself.

It took me a while to calm down and when I started to focus on my resume, job description and reading up all about the company my nerves started to settle.
In fact I don't know why I was worrying so much as the interview was actually one-on-one instead of a group and they put me on a step up from the position I applied for - I got the job :)
Thank you for your support crty it really means a lot.

I have been to a few group interviews. The first one was when I was seventeen and it was for CBS channel two. After that, every group interview I went on turn out to be a scam. Not to make you more nervous, but keep your eyes open.
One of the things that you might want to do is look the company up on www.betterbusinessbureau.com. This way you can find out more about the way they conduct business. Their reputation, so to speak. Not to be a kill joy, but a group interview makes me nervous.
Now that I have said all of that, Congratulations, you are going to be an American working girl. I better talk at you now, cause you are probably going to get an attitude later on, LOL. I am so happy for you. Just remember, you get the same feeling when you are nervous as you do when you are excited. Go for it.

Simmer down sweetie..Deep breath, in and out...Just be yourself and everything will fall into place...Don't pretend you know something you don't..It is okay to say that you need a better explanation...Answer questions to the best of your ability...Just because the interviewers are the ones hiring you doesn't mean they know everything..just remember that...We all have room for improvement, even the big wigs...You will do fine....Just make sure you dress accordingly and don't over do it...Good Luck...I will pray for you and you will do just fine....And remember if it doesn't work out, it wasn't meant to be...HUGS...Go get em...

Thank you lavenderbloom - I actually used your link to study up on a group interview and it really really helped. Thank you so much.
It was funny though when I arrived for the interview there were only two of us and we ended up having a one-on-one interview instead (which I was very happy about). I am also happy to report that I got the job :):)
Thank you for your kind words and support. Really appreciate it and the link as well!

I also went for one such interview two weeks back but turned out that it was not for a position I was interested in so I just excused myself but they kept my resume anyway. As a group they just made their requirements clear and explained us the company policy. I didn't want to work in night shifts so I excused myself but rest of the group went on for a personal interview with the HR.

I know how you feel. I've been applying for work now, after being a stay at home mom for the past 12 years. It's nerveracking and has my fingernails pretty much beyond hope, lol.
A group interview is USUALLY just what it sounds like. They ask basic questions in a group, then select the most likely candidates for private interviews.
I'm sure you'll do fine. Good luck :)

Ok thanks ciniful. That makes a lot of sense. I have never been in an group interview process before. Even though its just a sales/retail position part time, and during the holidays, it's still pretty nerve racking. Thank you so much for you positive comments.

I haven't ever heard of a group interview. I would think that it means that there will be more than one of you in the room at once. Where is it for? I hope you get it. Relax and be confident is the best advice that I have for you.

When I first read the response and it mentioned "a group interview" I immediately thought that I am not the only one they will be interviewing at that time and then I thought of role playing - ugh I have always hated those LOL
It's for a Temporary Service Associate position at Macy's Dept Store here at our local mall.
Fingers crossed it goes well for me :) thanks carolscash.

YEs I have had several group interviews before. Sometimes they do group and then individual. Sometimes its just the group. they want to see how you interact within a group. Make sure you speak up and are heard.
