How Can The Humane Society Do This?

A while back I wrote a discussion regarding a stray cat. My daughter and I tried to take the cat in, and make her a pet. She is a beautiful cat and very friendly. I would say she is a year old or less. Anyway we couldn't keep her from getting outside, and she got pregnant. We didn't want to send her to the pound, and I tried to place her with an animal rescue group, but none would help. They were all filled up. Well Jade had the kittens in the house, but that didn't stop Jade from getting outside. My daughter found homes for all of them once they are old enough. The problem is we found out they are all sick with the upper respatory infection. I know this from experience. Now she can't give them away sick. I told my daughter to take them to the pound and explain the situation. Well guess What? They won't take them. They said my daughter kept the momma and kittens to long. They wouldn't even help her with medication for the kittens. She can't afford a vet, and the kittens will make her other cat sick as well. They gave her a list of animal rescue places. She told them that I had tried that over the summer, and nobody would help. So now what to do?

It sucks all way round. I know from personal experience it is so hard to try to find homes for kittens/cats as yes, all pet rescuers are swamped with pets and are overflowing. But I do think it's cruddy that the Humane Society wouldn't at least give medication, something like vet strength Amoxicillin for the kittens, cause yes, even if you could place the kittens with a rescuer, they won't take them if they are sickly. Also, almost no animal rescuer is going to take in pets for free and you might actually be spending MORE money to place the kittens with them, then going to a vet. The only thing I can suggest is to take a pop over to these websites, as they do list a whole bunch of pet rescue places. Are you SURE she can't take them to a vet?

No she can't take them to the vet. She is barely making ends meet with 3 kids, since I moved out. And as much as i would love to help her. I have to pay all my own bils now, and i 'm still looking for a part time job on top of my full time job.

Thats so sad. I don't know what her keeping them too long would have anything to do with it. Unless people just don't adopt kittens once they are too old. There are too many pets right now. People really need to be more responsible about pets. I think they should consider making some laws about pet population. I wish I could keep more animals. Maybe once my kids move out lol.

The kittens are not even weened yet. I also don't know what they mean by keeping them to long. she was just trying to do a good thing, and help the Momma cat. now her cat that she has had for over a year will get sick as well.

I am sad to say i have had the same experience. Someone left two day old kittens on the vets front porch, they gave them to me to feed until they were big enough to give away. Needless to say, my spoiled cat was not hearing of them staying in our house, I called rescue places out of state too, all full couldnt help, pound wouldnt take them either. My cat is spayed, I wish more people would realize the responsibility of what it takes to care for an animal. People just don't realize how bad it actually is
