My dog just took off to go outside, and startled a skunk under the deck, who repayed his abrupt entrance by spraying him ..... RIGHT AT MY DOOR. Now, I know how to get the dog fixed up .. a ton of tomato juice dumped over him, even though the smell will linger for weeks. I've been through that one before. My question is, how do I get this smell out of my HOUSE? I've sprayed air freshener quite liberally ... in other words, I've gone through a bottle in the last ten minutes. It's not working! All and any advice appreciated! The smell is SO bad right now that me and the kids are gagging.

I believe just like the smell being on the dog. It will have to just wear off in time. You might want to try opening all your windows to see if that will at least make the smell not so bad. Best of luck!

Erm ... you don't just leave it on a dog and let it wear off in time though. You bathe a dog with tomato juice, lemon juice or coke. The problem is that you can't bathe your house to remove the smell, and the base smell doesn't wear off in time.

Oh okay, I gotcha. Does the tomato juice get rid of the smell completely? I thought you meant after you bath the dog, there is still a little smell to the dog. That was what I was meaning when I said the smell would have to wear off. But anyways, I wish I could of been more help. Hope you get rid of the smell soon.

you can simply light a few candles in your room, its flames absorb the smell you have in your room... i tried it already in my room :-)

Nope, that doesn't work. What's happening when you think it's working for you is that you're experiencing olfactory fatigue .. meaning your nose gets accustomed to it and you simply don't smell it anymore. I've spent a lot of time checking into this. I did manage to rid most of the smell, but it took a lot more than a few candles and a hell of a lot of work, and even that didn't get rid of it completely.

I can't remember the name there is a small bottle with bluish liquid something or other One Drop you can put one drop on like a class saucer and in a few minutes the order is gone. We keep a bottle all the time but my husband has it locked up and he is gone. It is very powerful and takes the odor out but lethal to children if drank. Meanwhile get some scented candles and burn as they will pull some of the odor out of the air. email me cascade_wild_rose@yahoo.com and when he gets home I can let you know exactly what it is. It will be late tonight though.

I had a similar thing happen a few months ago. I should go find the discussion for you because I got quite a few good tips and suggestions. Nothing worked completely and we still get a wiff of it from time to time. Opening windows and spraying air fresheners did help though. It was noticeable better after a few days.

...Something that works better than tomato juice is hydrogen peroxide. Mix it with a little liquid dish soap (I use Dish Drops from Quixtar because it already works to eliminate odors) and scrub the area well. Works on dogs, cats and kids, too! ...Been there, gf! Peace be with you. =(^;^)= Della
