Hi mylot friends!
Are you planning to buy something for yourself this Christmas? Maybe as a reward for yourself or just a simple traditional gift.
I am planning to buy something that I can afford as a reward for all my efforts and sacrifices for the whole year.

I used to buy myself a nice Christmas present every year, when I could afford it. I would set a total of $100 limit on my gifts to me. I haven't been able to afford anything for myself for Christmas in years. If I could afford it this year, I think I'd go for some new clothes. It's been about 5 years since I bought some clothes for myself that weren't bought strictly out of necessity. And I'd go for something nice... not t-shirts and stretch pants... something nicer. Prettier.

That's what I'm doing actually. I buy clothes when I don't have enough money to splurge on some techie things.

When I get a large sum of money (like when my father passed away or when my GIC came due) I will buy myself something. But we are struggling financially because of my inability to work. So the money usually goes for groceries and kid's clothes.
As for Christmas, I buy something for myself and give it to my husband for him to wrap and give to me for Christmas. I might as well get something I want. I have done this the last couple of years. He does buy something to surprise me as well. This year though I am not even giving him a list like I usually do. There is nothing I really want (except for clothes) that we can afford. Better to save the money.

I agree with you. Money is so hard to earn this time. But we still need to give ourself some rewards for all the hard work we did.

I bought myself a digital dvd camcorder for Christmas but in the long run it will be for my entire family so I don't feel so bad buying it. Everyone in my family can use it.

That's a wonderful idea. Buying something that can or will be used by the whole family. That will lessen the guilt feeling he he he
