A Method to the Black Friday Madness!

I finally figured it all out! After years of going shopping on Black Friday and spending hours standing in line (and wasting those precious shopping moments) my daughter and I came up with the perfect solution. She is 12 and is old enough to know where Christmas presents really come from, so I take her shopping with me now. We get up early and grab some coffee or hot chocolate (for her) and hit the stores. As soon as I get a few items in my cart, I have her stand in line to pay. I can then continue to shop in the immediate area and bring armloads of items to the cart. It saves me from having to navigate a shopping cart through the crowded aisles, and also prevents both of us from standing in line for what seems like forever. She enjoys being able to chat with the other people in the line and see what I am bringing to the cart for her sisters Christmas packages. I live in a fairly small town and usually know many of the other people in the line so I don't have to worry about leaving her unattended (I also don't stray so far that I can't see her). We get our items purchased and are on to the next sale in record time. If I find an item I want to purchase for her I just make her turn her back and bury it under something else in the cart. lol She loves being involved in the whole shopping experience and also spending alone time with mom (her younger sisters get to have fun with the babysitter). I told her I can't wait until she is 16 and can drive. Then one of us will be able to be dropped off at the door while the other parks the car. lol Do you think I have created a shopping monster?

You sound like my mother. That's almost something she would do. Personally i steer clear from all stores on black friday. I don't have the patience to deal with all the people going mad for holdiday shopping. I don't know, something about that day that turns the ordinary patient and respectful person into the rude and pushy creature.
But, I like your system. It seems to work. Happy shopping.

This is the first year that I get to teach my daughter about Black Friday, she is three. Yes, I know, I am starting at a young age. It sounds like a lot of fun, I loved to go out and shop too. I work retail and I had to lie to them because I refuse to work when I can shop, lol. Yes, you probably have created a shopping monster, but in a way it's kind of good. You are teaching her to start bargain hunting, very important. Enjoy your black friday shopping, I know I will be having a blast.
