There are two that I remember. First is sort of hockey related.Konstantinov of The Red Wings was hurt during a car crash after he helped The Wings win The Cup.And the other was Bertuzzi hit on the Av.I have forgotten his name but it was the hit heard all over.

If I remember right, while hockey has the most injuries (including groin pulls, sprains, etc), football and rugby have more debilitating injuries. that is, injuries that can cause permanant damage. As for the worst injuries I've seen or heard of in hockey. The worst I've seen was when Steve Moore was hit by Todd Bertuzzi a couple of seasons ago. Concussion, a few broken vertabrae in his neck... pretty serious. Last I heard, Moore still hasn't been cleared to skate, let alone play hockey.
The worst I've heard about was a goaltender (I don't remember who) that got slashed in the throat (by a skate, I believe). But I didn't see that happen, I was just told about it.

It was Clint Malachuk(sp?)
Brutal, made me so sick when I saw it
Bertuzzi was pretty bad and the slash to the face by Simon was awful as well

The worst one so far, is the one my s/o just sent me a link to, just happened I believe yesterday. It was the Panthers, Richard Zednik, had his carotid artery cut my a teammates skate. He is however doing ok after an hour long surgery. You can check it out on YouTube, just search nhl hockey/zednik, but be warned it's not pretty.

I was watching a local CHL game in Memphis and one guy got knocked out cold and then had to have CPR done on the ice to get him back. It has been a while ago, but I think he got cross checked and hit his head hard on the ice, which knocked him out. The ambulance had to come get him and they partitioned off the area were the Zamboni came in so the paramedics could come get him. He was okay and was back playing in a month or so.

I always thought it was basketball, because your knees hit the floor really hard, and you wear not protection.
