dengue scare!

we recently were faced to faced with this deadly disease and it was a real scare with us. our nephew, who is 19 yrs. old, contracted it while he was on duty as a nurse in one of the district hospitals here. he was confined in the hospital for a week and during that time, we watched his symptoms got worse. from an initial platelet count of 200, after 3 days, it wen to 28. his nose started to bleed, his liver bloated and his whole body bloated. he had difficulty breathing and wasn't able to sleep for the whole week he was there. worst thing is, he needed to be transfused with 3 bags of platelet concentrate and we had a hard time looking for donors who passed the screening. we never prayed so hard in our life as much as we prayed at that time. but he came out of it, some say miraculously, and we're just so thankful that he survived. now, we're more vigilant with the prevention. even the kids are more aware now.
