Dear friends, many occasions come in our life, when we need to work in a group or a team, if you are working in a group, do you feel like taking initiative to lead the group or to accomplish any assigned task? Do you wish to lead others, or just remain nuteral. If any such occasion arises, I take initiatve and come forward to execute the assigned task. What about you? Please share your thoughts on this and your experiences also, if any.
Have a great day! Thanks in advance.

I don't know if I have qualities of good leadership but I know if any task will be assigned to me, I can do it with full honesty and hardwork. To tell you the truth, I am a bit afraid to take any responsibility, because there are more critics than appreciaters. No body will appreiciate 100 good things that you did, but one place you go wrong, that is end of your hardwork....people start critising you and your work and this is what I hate. I give my full support and will do my best to help. But I prefer to follow the instructions rather than giving the instructions....so now you know .......this is me.........have a nice day.

Yes, you are right when you take responsibility to execute a task...chances are that you might be critised also. Every kindof people are there...but percentage of those persons are greater....who believe in finding faults with others, letting others down...and spoiling the show.
I come forward to take initiative, be it in office or otherwise, but I feel really bad when my sincere efforts are critised or I am questioned for unnecessary things by a person, who does not come forward to take initiative. It is the easiest thing to critise others.
Thanks very much for enriching the post and sharing your thoughts.
Have a great day!

I think I have a reasonable amount of initiative. This was most evident when I was a teacher for 22 years. Sometimes I won promotion positions, that required initiative. For instance, I was the coordinator of Behaviour Management & I would have to deal with very difficult children.
Another time I was the science coordinator for 6 local schools, & I would have to come up with science lessons to show other teachers.

Hi Deepak! I do take initiatives most of the time especially at work. As a Manager I need to lead and motivate my team and get things done by them. Otherwise too when it comes to issues like social justice or abuse I find myself taking he initiative to get the necessary help and justice for the affected parties. I like to plan travels and parties too and am extremely good at organizing it.

Welcome back! Dear!
Nice to see your interesting reply!
I thought that either you have disappeared somewhere or too busy or have forgotten me and my discussions....LOL!
I can make out that you are such a person who is willing to take initiative and will lead a group, as and when required. It is, I believe, one of your positive traits and it helps you build your self-confidence.
I will have to accept that you are good at organising parties etc....because if you take initiave, you tend to become a good organiser.
Thanks for sharing and enriching the post.

Have a great day and weekend!

hi dpk,
I used to take initiative and lead the team or a group i even like that now as well. But i have had a few bad experiences so decided not to act over smart and stay nuteral as than i have seen that whenevr i have taken an initiative of any activity to be completed i have always had to suffer as people around me used to dump things and than i am responsible for evrythng which i donot wish to as i expect co-ordination from evry one.May be i am not good at that.
These days i have also learn that i shoudnt be sharing my ideas with any of my team mates as than again the things goes for a toss..
so i am in neutral zone and i enjoy being a spectator these days.

Welcome back! Dear!
Nice to see your reply!
So your experience have made you smarter and wiser. I think bad experiences can make a person nuteral in such a situation. If is but natural, when we take a initiative, we are likely to be appreciated but there would be some in the group...who will not miss any opportunity to criticise us.
Thanks for sharing and enriching the post.

For me, i do take initiative especially when i see that people seems to ignore something that needs to be done. I think this is a necessary character traits for all people because things get done easily when people part take of the various task not waiting instructions to do them.

It all depends on which group iam working with.
If the group of persons is self motivated, and energetic then there is no difficulty in finishing the work, and for the group, you dont need leaders.
On the other hand, if the group suffers from lack of enthusiasm, then i must take a stride ahead and will definitely lead the group to success.
Take care Deepak.

Hi dpk! I really wouldn't want to take the lead. But i would be expressing my opinions and will be doing everything i can to help the team. I am more of a teamplayer than a leader. I will cooperate but will be giving my own ideas for the betterment of the project and to succeed in our goal. Of course, it will be a group decision if what ideas and plans are better and will work well in reaching our goal. Take care and have a nice day. :)

It depends on the situation. On what is happening in the group. I'm a student right now and there are so many group works. There are times that I was the one who takes the job because most of them are busy. Its ok for me if they can't do it if they are busy but not if they are just lazy. =)

I am not the type of person who takes up tasks and lead some people, am completley a dedicated follower. I really appreciate people who takes up intitive and leads others but i also see that at times they have to eat up all what they have said or doing. I give ideas during private discussions but i cannot in a group. So in short i am a nuteral type of person who does not want to be a get into any kind of trouble.

Well, it depends. I there is no leader within the group, I would start thinking things on my own and later share the idea with my group mates and also ask their opinion. Then we could start working by asking who will do this and that... but thats if there is no assigned leader Because if there is an assigned leader, it would cause a little offense if I do the initiative to lead.

Taking initiative on any occasions shows your integrety inlife. Whether taking initiative is wrong is correct is secondary question, but taking initiative is a great leadership qualities of the person who takes initiative. When you take initiative there will be many people behind you. This is a question of confidence you posses. Things may go wrong or wright. How you will come to know what you did is correct or not.Only when you take initiative. So,do take initiative, then only u yourself knows what you are. Do not bother about what others say in this regard.

If I know I can do the job and meet deadlines, I take initiative. But if the task at hand is not something I know I can do, or if I'm too swamped with other things to be able to do the task well, I just leave it to others. I don't want to overload myself with work and then end up not doing everything, especially if there are others involved in the group who might suffer the consequences if I volunteer to do something and then end up not having enough time to do it.

depends on the task at hand and the dynamics of the group...if i can sense the group is fine with me leading then i come forward but if someone else comes forward first then i just remain in the shadow.
