Once I made a double batch of brownies. They turned out horrible and when I went back and looked, I doubled everything except the eggs... They were for my kids school function, so I took them anyways, and threw out whatever didn't get eaten.

I think we threw out most of them. I was supposed to bring SOMETHING and it was too late to make more, and the store was soooo not on the way. I didn't have much of a choice. There was tons of other stuff there for them, and no one knew that I had made the awful ones.

I made a mistake last night marciascott.I have to prepare raasam. In that i forgot to put tamarid, salt.I heated the raasam for a couple of time and after that i served it to my family members. While eating i came to know what mistake i made.Like this,we ate the food by adding some what salt to it.Even it doesn't taste we ate it.
Instead my family members said that sometimes it happens like that only no probs.....
By listening those words i felt happy and at the same time i felt i shdn't repeat this thing again and again.......
have a nice day.....

I think they didn't want you to feel bad, so they eat it. It wasn't that bad was it?

What I normally do is to add water as well but usually I end up with such a lot of the stuff that it lasts forever--and ends up in the garbage--so for example I added too much salt on my marinade--I just use a portion of it and dilute only this part and then I freeze the rest so the next time I need this--at least I have some on hand already--ready for diluting! ;)

LOL. I don't do the cooking here, but have had to help hubby save more than one dish in the past! I usually end up cooking for tinned tomatoes or a bit of chilli! lol. However, if it is that bad, we end up having cereal! lol.

I seldom cook...when I really do,I always miss sth.like salt, water, etc. As for salt,it is easy to deal with for me:add to the dish if I forget to do it previously,or add water to the dish if it is very salty...The result is that nobody dare to touch the dish any more except myself. In other words,I am wasting food.

one important thing is the cooking salt-
all are very care ful abut the salt if less means we can manage it but more means very difficult to maintain it.
all cooks dont forget this salt matter.

If you are ever making homemade soup and you put too much salt in it all you have to do it add a raw, peeled potato and it will absorb the salt then discard the potato. This really works.

hi Marcie!
When I made spaghetti last week, I made a horrible mistake.
I always make my own sauce. I was adding the spices when the *sprinkle* cap of the basil fell off. I had dumped at least a quarter cup into my spaghetti sauce. EWWWW I scooped and scooped with a spoon. I could not remove it all. The flavor of it was not too bad. BUT...the 'hard leafiness' of the basil had left a taste of wood in the sauce.
Did you know that spaghetti noodles with butter on them can make a wonderful meal? LOL
((Hugs))

Hi Sheeri, that is what happen to me, I made a mistake and put too much pepper in My gravy, you know how the cap should be on the bottle or container, well the top was not on the bottle, I shake the pepper in the Gravy, I tried to sprinkle it but a lot of it went into the Gravy. Yes I have had noodles with buter, I also like to put chesse in it. It is really good.

Yes one cannot do much. It also depend on what we are cooking and how much extra ingredient we have put. In a curry with gravy if more(nt too much) salt have been put then we can add extra water to decrease the excess. Just remind me of my mother's advice to dip charcoal if there is excess salt.

Please note that you don't have to put the charcoal, just dip some piece of charcoal. The size of charcoal should be big enough so that you can take it out. The amount to be dipped is not exactly fix.

It all depends on what you are making. One time I put too much pepper in my cabbage and there was no saving it at all. I rarely use what I would consider too much sugar. But, should I do this, I just add more of the product I was making.
For instance, if I were making hot cereal in the morning, I could just make more cereal and blend it all together. Now salt, sometimes you can get away with adding water, depending on how rich the flavor of your soup is.
Even if it is meat. Lets say boneless chicken or steak. Put it in a skillet, pour water over it and let it simmer until the some of the seasonings come out. Then you can make gravy.

Hi Rozie, that happen to me, I put to much pepper in my gravy, it was no way of saving it, I tried to take some of the pepper out but I couldn't that gravy would of been good too, but I put too much pepper in it. I hated that. I had to throw it out. I was going to have rice and gravy, but since I messs up the gravy, I put chsse in the rice,it was good. sometimes you half to be creavtive cooking things.

I bet that was really nasty, so you had to throw it away, well I put to much pepper in my gravy that I was making, I tried to get it out but couldn't so I had to end up throwing it away, it was good gravy too, too much pepper messed it up. I was so furious, that is how I came up with this discussion.

I sometimes put in too much salt, and then I double the other ingredients or put more in. Sometimes it does not work because well a tablespoon of salt is different from a tsp. and since I do not like too much salt, I wind up throwing it away. My husband would probably eat it as he likes salt, but well it is not that good for you, so out it goes. With sugar, it is easy, I just add more flour and an extra egg, plus more margarine. I am good at making up recipes in my head.
