I am 45 and have been smoking since I was 12 years old. I have tried to quit several times and I have failed several times. I know I need to quit and have to plan the quit and am looking for others going through the same.
I have tried several methods such as cold turkey, being hypnotized and the patch. I did best with the patch. I actually quit for over a month and then when the mental part of it set in, I caved. I just became very tired of the daily fight of staying away from them. Especially when all my loved ones still smoked.
There is a new drug out called Chantix and I have heard only positive about it. I know several people that did good. I might try this approach.
I know that in order for anyone to succeed in quitting, they have to be mentally prepared. And they have to do it because they want to, not because someone else is telling them they have to.
Would love to hear from others dealing with similar issues surrounding quitting smoking.

If you read the book, "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr, it will help!!! I smoked for 15 years, which is shorter than you. But I read the book, and it helped give me the courage to quit three months ago!
It can't hurt to read it, and if you can afford it, buy it, read it, and then donate it to your local public library! I recommend this book to everyone!
