dear dbmax, i too have rheumatoid arthritis, and severe bone loss at the left hip due to osteo arthritis at the hip. it is a crushing pain on my hip which when severe causes me to limp or have to use a cane. no meds help the pain of it. i will wake up at night in excrusiating pain in my left hip. cortizone shots help, but they wear off. would a morphine patch on my left hip, take the pain away. please let me know asap, as i have to go to work each day in pain, and i would like to find something that works, for that pain. thanking you in advance, for any response to this inquiry, dbmax.......stanzi

I would suggest that you discuss your concerns with your doctors, especially concerning the pain. There are definitly pain killers available that do not have the same addictive qualities. Have you ever looked into alternative medicine?

Im actualy taking fentanyl. You wear it on your skin like on your chest. Somewhere that doesnt get scraped off. It works through your blood. Not the same as Lidoderm which works on affected area. As the jenseyedea said you really need to see a doctor. They have meds in lower doses and non addictive that will help you greatly. I take Relafen for inflamation. The doctor would try something like this first. Believe me when I say you really dont want the strong pain meds unless its so bad you just cant function anymore. I know for sure now that I can no longer work. Too painful even with the medication. The meds alone prevents me from working. I have three ruptured disks in my back aswell. Side affects are bad.

Yes I have the same problem. Going on 12 years now. Been on percocet, delodid, darvocet, neuroten, oxycodine, and now I'm on fentanyl transdermal patches at 75mcg every other day. As with you, it seems that they are running my life as well. No one will ever know what you are going through but you and other people like me so hang in there.

I would just like to tell you that I understand where you're coming from. I also have RA. I am no longer on any medication for this, it is in remission. However, I was on a lot of pain meds, and steroids. I am also a Chemical Dependency Counselor...so I also understand addiction. I think there comes a point especially with RA, that yes you may be addicted to the pain killers, but there are not a lot of options. I guess I would like to know what other treatment your on to treat the RA. Anything like mobic, or embrel? Sometimes if you can tolerate those meds, you are not on as high of dose with the pain killers. Also, you may be able to change the type of pain killer. Have you tried steroids? I would encourage you to look into some other types of treatment. If I can help you in any way, let me know. I definitly feel for you.

I heartily sympathize with you .Why not try the acupuncture and moxibustion which has been listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
