I used to have a cockatiel! We had to give it to a friend when I moved away for college. To teach them a word, you need to say it repeatedly to them every day. It takes awhile, but they can learn many words. If the bird is biting you, it means you need to hold it more often so it's not scared of you. Hold it every day, and it will get used to you. Good luck!

I have an 18 year old cockatiel named Dino. I owned his parents so I've had him since he was an egg! He does not talk, but he is a good companion. I work full time so I didn't attempt to hold him much or teach him to talk. He does love to be kissed on the head and he knows what kiss means! I wish I would've spent more time training him. Has anyone read the story about AJ the parakeet that can putt a golf ball?? He sounds hilarious! Anyway, I would love to hold my Dino but now I have cats and I'm not about to give them any chance! Cockatiels are wonderful pets!
