My 8-year-old son is shortsighted, what shall I do?

The other day, as soon as my son came home from school, he told me excitedly that he couldn't see the words on the blackboard clearly and his teacher suggested he wear glasses. After saying this , he looked at me hopefully " Mum, shall we go to buy a pair of glasses tomorrow?" To tell the truth, I didn't feel worried at that time. Instead, I couldn't help laughing becuase I remembered my childhood. Can some mistakes in the world never be avoided? I still remembered that I lied to my father that I couldn't see the words on the blackboard and I needed a pair of glasses just because I thought it looked beautiful with a pair of glasses. It turns out that I am wrong. My son is shortsighted really. I feel depressed and selfcondemned. In my eyes, glasses are similar to chains, once you put them on, you will never have chance to put it down. Shall I let him wear glasses at such an early age? Are there any other ways I can use to make up for this?

Well, glasses may not be the most fun thing in the world to wear. With that said I do not think you have any choice. Do you not want your chilc to be able to follow the other kids in class? Do you want him to start beeing behind the other kids at this early age? If he had a broken leg would you not get him crutches, or if he was paralyzed would he not get a wheelchair, or an hearingaid if he did not hear well? beeing a parent means doing the best one can for the kid. It means giving them the best foundation and opportunities possible. Give the child glasses. Now

In the market you can find special contact lenses for children that when it is worn it can help to correct the vision of the children. This lenses only meant for children. You can check with your local optometrist and ask them about it.
