It seems that there are alot of Americans on this site :) I myself am English so I can't really comment on this subject as I don't know enough American history but it would be fascinating to see who comes out on top and the differing reasons for your choices.

I would have to say George Washington. He was the first. He set the standard for what a president should be.

Indeed, he had the vision and ability to unite a fledgling nation :)

John F. Kennedy. It's a sad day in the world when the bad presidents are left untouched, and the good presidents are murdered in cold blood. I guess it really is one of those "Where were you?" questions. Well, JFK will not be forgotten R.I.P!

Are you ever going to open up a can of worms with this one! You'll get almost as many answers as there have been Presidents and this is a question that doesn't really have a right or wrong answer, in my opinion. I've heard my parents talk highly of FDR my entire life so I believe he must have been one of the best although I know many conservatives will argue about that choice. The first President I remember well is JFK although I was only 11 when he was assassinated. He was much loved but didn't really have enough time to leave the mark he may have. I'm a registered Democrat and I've been called a liberal here - and I admit that I am in many senses of the word - but I'll say Nixon wasn't really that bad; he did wrong in the Watergate mess but he was probably just the first to get caught! I didn't agree with some of Reagan's economic policies but it can't be denied that he was a great communicator and did well with foreign affairs. Bill Clinton made on major mistake in falling for the advances of an ambitious intern but other than that I felt he was the best President in my lifetime. Things were good then, my friends and family memembers were all doing well and there were improvements made that improved the lives of working people. I'm a real oddity I'm afraid since it seems to be an unwritten rule that if you liked Reagan you have to hate Clinton and vice versa. My final comment is that I believe that ALL of our past Presidents had the best interests of the U.S. in their hearts whether their methods were what I agreed with or not; I'm not at all sure that can be said about the current resident of the White House. Let's just say GWB will never appear on a list of "Best U.S. Presidents"!
