I think that's great that you're starting your OWN tradition for the holidays. There is no law that says Thanksgiving must include a turkey. Whatever you and your family likes best is what counts! If you want roast beef, don't let others try and sway your opinion...it's your meal, and it's your choice! Personally, my girls and their families are all working on Thanksgiving day...so, I'm making a roast for myself. You GO girl...dare to be different!

Hello, and what's up pilgrim having a non-traditional Thanksgiving would seem to be a good choice for you and maybe a lot of others and if this is your first non-traditional experience I am sure it will be a rememberable one as for me I am disapointed when family members of mine have a ham and no turkey or turkey and no ham and I am sure your family members our ready for the surprise of a non-traditional Thanksgiving Day on the dinner table.

Nothing better than doing what you please and watching 'traditionalists' blow fuses. About Turkey, I read somewhere that Turkey meat contains a chemical called triptomelaine or similar and it is this chemical that makes you sleep. Traditions can be fun and interesting, but I also see them as an excuse to not think or not engage reality.

Eh, I think people should eat whatever makes them feel good. Especially on thanksgiving, if it's supposed to be about being thankful, you should eat food you are actually thankful for. Whether that's turkey with all the trimmings, beef roast, or pizza doesn't matter to me. We usually just have a small ham on thanksgiving, since if we made turkey my hubby would be eating it all by himself. But we've even gone out to eat on the holiday before, depending on our mood. No one can tell you what you will enjoy or can have on any holiday. :P

I like your attitude. I only wish that a lot more people could think that way. I know a lot of people who complain about it, but never change things. My mom has already got the stuff for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I am going to suggest spaghetti for the Easter holiday.

Well we are having Roast beef the day after too...I am not making Thanksgiving dinner but will probably have a traditional one at my sisters....but it's roast beef the day after! You should have whatever you like for Thanksgiving.....and be thankful you have enough good fortune to be eating so well on that day! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

I applaud your decision! I've never thought turkey to be anything special myself. I prefer beef. As in porterhouse. And have had so. But while responding to this, I had another thought. Remember the old tradition of having breakfast for dinner? I haven't done that in years! Just another thought should you be looking for other ideas.
