If your mother gets them, you will. I have spider veins and my mother had very bad spider veins after her pregnancy. I would say in your case the best thing is to go to the doctor and get them removed before they become worse which will happen. My mother had to have hers removed and they were very ugly looking.

Because the veins are on your knee area you will have to wear either thigh high or pantyhose compression stockings. I fitted many women and men for compression hosiery. You stated that you wear socks. This would be okay if the veins were below the top of the stocking. But where you have described them you need to have more coverage. Ask your doctor for advise and the possibility of getting a prescription for at least 15-20 mmgh. Best of luck to you!

Hi Elusive, I have the stockings that they put on me when I had my hysterectomy in May this year..They go above my knee but now that I think about it because of what you mentioned, I don't know if those are the right ones to use. When I did "In Home Care" I put compression stockings on my consumers as well, but they were tan in color...I am going to ask my doctor what he suggests..Thank you so much for this advice...

I have them too on my legs but they are not painful. I hear that if they get to that stage then something should be done to remove them. My dad had an operation earlier this year to have his removed on his legs because they were hurting him. I don't really know much about them either but they look ugly on my legs and I'm hoping they either go down or I can find a cheap way of getting rid of them.

I have one really bad one on my right calf. It goes from about the center of my calf and about half way up my thigh. It started sticking out when I was pregnant with my daughter. I had a job where I was standing for 10 hours a day during my pregnancy and that is what was making it so bad. My doctor told me to wear compression socks. It is hereditary. My dad has a few of them and my grandmother had a bunch of them.. One of my aunts had hers surgically removed. Hers were really bad.

i don't have them and i am happy about it. i am sad to know that you have it. i hope it goes away soon so you will feel better, too. i knew people who suffer from varicose veins and they say, it's irritating because it just not only look ugly on their legs but it is also painful sometimes. what i know is most people get it because they wet their legs or hands just after taking a walk. one must rest for atleast an hour from their walk outside before washing their legs, feet or hands. the veins swell when washed while tired. you can see a doctor for sure. they will give you some creams to slow down the process of varicose veins. i have also heard that there are surgeries to get rid of them permanently. i am sure your doctor knows about it. take care. anne

If in doubt about them bulging and hot I would go to the Doctor . . And all I know about them I have heard from others that osmetimes they hurt are hot and bulge. also knew one women that had the operation and our Doctor was old at theat time over 50 years ago it took 7 hours for him to remove them all and then that put him in the hospital . But she then had the releif that they didnt hurt any more and was no longer unsightly. and she was very happy for all that.

Well, your link pretty much says it all. I have a few really big and ugly vericose, and lots of spider veins. I don't like them, but they are there. If I lost weight, maybe it would help, but I'm also on my feet a lot. They have suppost hose you can wear that are supposed to help, but I have never tried them. Also, try this link. It's for cream that is supposed to help minimise the appearance of spider veins. I was using it, but I'm bad about remembering, so I didn't do it for very long. http://shop.avon.com/shop/product.asp?pf_id=31236&from=search&find_spec=sprider%20vein&camp=200726&dir_delivery=1&rep_delivery=1

If your varicose veins are swollen and warm to the touch, it sounds like you have fever in them. I would definitely get that checked out. Varicose veins aren't supposed to be like that. The bulging a little bit, but not a lot. I do have some varicose veins but they don't bulge out or cause me problems. I would definitely go see your doctor.
