In Catholic, there's what you call a special mass and ordinary mass. If you want to offer a mass like to your deceased loved ones, you have to pay the church for it this is i think categorized as special or ordinary mass and there's a deference in its price... why is it like this that there is a special and ordinary mass. what if you dont have the money, you are not allowed to offer the mass? Is there a difference between a special mass and an ordinary mass? will our prayers be heard if we choose the special mass of less heard if we choose the ordinary one...

I left the Catholic church about 3 years ago for reasons just like this. Please don't be offended, but i feel the Catholic leaders are very hypocritical (spelling? haha). One of my major beefs with the Catholic church is how they can say no one in their church actually gets divorced because if they do divorce they were never married so it means since no marrige was ever valid their is no divorce. Doesn't make sense huh ? haha

Even tho God does not want money the Church does. God doesn't have a light bill. If the people can pay more they will be asked to Pay more. Even if the people can't pay more they will be asked.Give untill it HURTS and then give some more. Remember God will be smiling on you while you are going Hungry!

Maybe the church wants money to pay for their expenses. As in the Old Testament times, ancient Israel was required to pay one tenth of their income - whether livestock, grain or money, to finance the ministry of Christ. There are others also today who follow that tradition to give their one tenth of their income to God. And there's no question about that for me.. But what bothers me in Catholic mass is that price tags attached for the mass we want to offer to our love ones and its differentiated as special and ordinary with different monetary charge.

This churches are just made for all those who needs to hide their true personality and personal hidden agendas, lots of people can be good without offering any monetary denominations. I don't think that churches and all those working in it are servants of God, it is written that "give to Caezer what is rightfully his and give to God what he needs" and money is not for HIM. Worship and prayer is what makes us move closer to Him, it is what He wants us all to do.. I have never stepped up into nay church for the past 5 years of my life, simply because I have lost my belief in the way they propagate the word of God.

I guess i agree with you raijin. God has nothing to do with money. What is most important is our faith to GOD and that we follow his teachings as written in his Holy Book.

it is not called a special or ordinary mass. the money given for a mass to be offered for someone is called a stipends. a stipends helps to cover expenses, however, if one can not afford a stippends the mass is not refused them. There are High Masses and Low Masses at high mass the liturgy is chanted and at low Mass it is not. There are pontifical high masses and solemn high masses. :)

hello modestah! thanks for the explanation. yeah, understand that it is used for the their stipends. as i understand, special mass is conducted per request of the requesting party like in a baptism, we request for a mass on a specific day and time that is separated from the daily masses conducted by the church.. and with that, we pay a certain amount. some church would set a price.. just like in all saints/souls day.. in the cemetery, there's a priest would roam around the vicinity. he would pray a novena on the deceased per request of the family. and with this, there is a payment..here, i think it is 50 pesos if i am not mistaken..just want to ask, why it is like that.. why cant the priest just pray for all the deceased without pay.. i am a catholic, but i already lost faith with the catholic church..

This is a great discussion. I know the church needs money to finance their existence are well as other institutions that are dependent on them and mostly the poor and depressed areas. However this also puzzled me about the rate between an ordinary mass and a special mass. In my belief, I do believe that God does not categorize any of us. Even if we attend an ordinary mass or not, I believe that He loves us. Money is not an issue with our Lord, faith does. I will possibly be asking a priest to enlighten this discussion of yours my friend. I too want to know, I think I'll ask someone I know who can help resolve the doubts we have about this. I am not sure if the pope knows this too.

Hi! Thanks for the reply and for the help to resolve this doubts. I agree with you that God does not categorize our prayers. That is one of the things that I dont like in catholic doctines... i understand that the church needs money, and there's no question about that. it seems that the church becomes a business congregation....

Per research, catholic church is the richest and largest religious organization. As of 2005 its recorded members reaches spproximately one sixth of the worlds population. Their riches maybe comes from many devotees world wide that continually supports the church and the alms given in every mass..

Catholics church practices has a lot of glitches...and the same with all the religions out there. No religion are perfect to any person..but the thing is no religion could save you. It is your faith that will save you at the end of the day. So if there are glitches on the practice, it is still up to you if you follow them or not as long as you know from your heart that you are doing what is right and according to the teaching and will of GOD. I think when you request for special mass, this mass is only intended to your deceased love ones and thus you pay a higher price for it. while in ordinary mass, it is intended to all souls out there thus you only give donations, something like that. Im am not sure though if this is the correct explanation. I am sure Catholic church has an explanation about special and ordinary mass.

Catholics are good people and I love all their humanitarian programs. On the issue of mass I think they are quite following the precepts of Jesus Christ. Based on the issue of special and ordinary mass, there is nothing as such. Jesus christ said do this in remembrance of me. Not in another way different from what He laid down for us to do. I believe the Catholics have been outrageuos on the Issue of Holy Communion (Mass).
