I was reading the back dated papers when I came across this article.
It is really funny. I wonder how much of it is true?
***QUOTE***************************************************
1) That's Okay
This one of the most dangerous statements a woman can make to a man. That's Okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
2) Thanks
A woman is thanking you. Do no question or faint. Just say you are welcome.
3) Whatever
Is a woman's way of saying "I hate you"
4) Don't worry about it. I got it
Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself.
This will later result in a man asking "What's wrong?" Then the woman will say "Nothing."
5)Nothing
This is the calm before the storm. This means something and you should be on your toes!

hmm, think this must be written by a guy. don't think it applies so much to local context. singapore woman are more asian in the thinking. i'd go as far as saying that we still view man as the head of the home unit. i've used the above statements a lot of times. but i really meant is as it is, 'that's okay' means it's really okay. why would one want to beat around the bush when man just doesn't get it? i'd rather tell it straight in the face so that my man will know what is going on. playing this kind of game is such a waste of time to me. :p

I would guess so as well. Usually these are written tongue in cheek.
I guess you are rite about the Asian mindset as well. But the world is changing fast. The Asian mindset is diluting in all these modern culture that we are constantly being exposed to.
When a woman and a man come together to have a conversation, be it a chat or an argument, it would be so nice if the woman will just lay it straight to the guys rather than try to keep hinting him onto her real intentions. Most guys are always reading things as it is. No deeper meaning to what ever they are saying.
IT would make things simple if they don't have to keep guessing what the other meaning of the conversation is. It is really exhausting you know. :p

Wow applefreak, if every girl or woman thinks like you, the world would be a happier place for men!
No need to wreck our brains to try and figure out if the words just spoken has any hidden meaning or not.
Straight and simple, easy to understand.
I can imagine such a world, and boy would it be a nice place to live in. No second guesses, no need to worry about not getting things right cos the hints were interpreted wrongly!

yup yup totally agree with you. find that it's a waste of time trying to hint something to anyone. unless this person is your twin, he /she will get it wrong most of the time. might as well just go straight to the point right? guess i'm not into this kind of game coz personally just find it a waste of time. being subtle is one thing, but expecting your man to know what you want without saying it is simply unreasonable. :p

Hi ahgong... If you translate it negatively, it'll be negative reaponse. If you look at it positively, you'll get positive response.
1) That's okay...means agree or matters close.
2) Thanks...women hv manners too you know.
3) Whatever...means anything goes, you decide.
4) Don't worry.....I manage to settle the problem.
5) Nothing...mean I wanna be alone.

I guess the above article have to be taken in context mushroomLady.
Not all the time we say something it means the negative. But there are also times when positive words mean the negative. It really depends on the situation where those words are used.
Take for example the joke about this professor and his class:
Professor: "When you take a negative and a positive, you will always get a negative.
And when you take a negative and a negative, you will get a positive.
But no where in the knowledge world can you find two positives that will give a negative!"
Student at the back of the class :"Yeah... right!"
I had a good laugh at that as well.

yeah... number 5 is a good one.
I was having a good laugh at it when I first read it.
Then it dawned on me... my wife also used some of these phases as well.
Hmm... guess I have to pay more attention to what she says then. *cheeky*
I guess these words have to be taken in context to the situation as well.
Thanks for sharing.

I too find it funny when I read it. But when you do ponder about it, some of it actually seem plausible.
I mean, when you think back about all the conversations you have with your woman friend, or better yet, your woman significant other (I am assuming you are a man),
it does seem familiar, doesn't it?
I know that there are more phases like these. I have to really sift through my old archives to see where I hid them. Heh heh... glad that you like it.

haha, you get it~
It's not that exactly what these words mean, but it does explain something. There is an old saying in my country: What the woman did is just contrary to what they said.(something like this)
Is it somehow familiar with what you wanna say? hehe

I guess the discussion is going along that line of thought.
Where when a woman say something, they may actually mean the total opposite.
That is why there are always misunderstandings.
And it is also precisely from these misunderstandings that things like that crops up.
I guess these are all fodder for people like stand up comedians!

I think there was a huge mail chain about this. but does it hold true anymore? I dont think "whtever" means she hates u anymore. Its just an expression when u dont have anythin else to say. and "ok" could just be agreement. but there are a lot of expressions that are strictly women-only and cannot be interpreted at face value.
Like they said, even Freud couldnt understand women!!

Again, I must stress, when words are spoken, it has to be taken into context the situation that it is spoken in. The tone of voice when the words are used. And the matter that these words are referring to.
If any one of this context is not taken in properly when trying to understand these words, they may put across a different meaning.
I remember the mail that was circulating around a while back. There were more, I just cannot seem to remember where I placed them.
I will see if I can find them then we can have more discussions about it. ;)

I think all of them are somewhat true upto some extend but some are a bit extreme. Anyway its the way papers or other medias depict woman as. Men should be aware of all those steps mentioned here as your women also is in this ring and i think you are already aware of it and fi not beware of those statements. Women are unpredictable so men has to be very careful and take notes of their words as girls likes to explode violently and sometimes you will be blown apart. This is a nice post to make a men aware of what a women really is, nice post ahgong and please keep on posting such posts and lets scare mylot mens here. J/K

Thanks for responding healer, I will try to find more of such articles to post.
I enjoy them thoroughly and have to share it cos it is so entertaining.
Just a few simple words and we already can have a fruitful and meaningful discussion.
This just goes to illustrate how differently a man and a woman thinks. Especially so when it comes to arguments and simple words can have so many hidden meaning when spoken by a man or a woman.
Interesting isn't it?

LOL
I think point 3 applies to me! =p
Whenever I am speechless and I do not know how to reply, I'll just reply with a 'Whatever'. That's the shortest reply I can give to win the conversation. haha...
As for the others, I do not think it applies to me as much YET. Maybe in the future. LOL

I know exactly what you mean poohgal.
My sister used to use it on me whenever we have arguments. It is really frustrating especially when you are trying to reprimand her for a mistake she made.
Now I have a sister in law that also love to use that word.
Grrr... the worst part of it is, you usually don't have a good rebuttal for that word when it is used on you, especially when you are in an argument and trying to put a point across. It is in fact down right rude too.
Sigh~~~ guess we are from a different era. I never used or heard of people using that word when I was younger. ;)

All of it is true! Trust me on this one! And you wonder why relationships are so challenging for men. What women say is not what they mean! Yes means no, maybe means no and no means know when a woman says it. We guys use Webster's' definition of the same words. No wonder we don't understand each other!

ha ha ha.... that is why there is a constant need to keep communications channels open when you are with your significant other.
Imagine the misunderstandings if two people who are suppose to live their lives together do not communicate properly?
The consequence would be disastrous!
Best to keep an open mind when it comes to communications. It is important to know what the other is saying to keep peace in a relationship.
