so, i've been having cold-like symptoms for the past months. i just called the doctor about it and she insists that it's a cold and there's nothing to be done about it. But, my step-dad gave me a few antibiotics last weekend and they seemed to make me feel better. however, the doctor insists that they cannot give me anything to help me. now, i can't tell her that i got some medicine from someone else. but, i do need some relief. any advice or remedies besides drinking lots of water and tea, theraflu, all that?

If you can possibly do this, get yourself checked for Allergies. Allergies can cause cold-like symtoms, such as a runny nose, watery eyes, etc., and can lead to regular colds and coughs because they wear your body down.
Or, you can try an over the counter allergy medicine to see if this helps any.
It does sound like Allergies to me......Good Luck and I hope you feel better.

it's funny you should mention that. i actually thought about going to get some benadryl. i do have bad allergies, but for some reason, i forget about them when the seasons change to cold. i'm always more aware when it happens in the spring or summer months.

Ahhhh, so you do have Allergies.....Were you ever checked by an Allergist to find out exactly which one's they were?...That actually is very important. General doctors don't usually bother with this, only your doctors specializing in Allergies do.

i went to an allergist and he ran a series of tests on me that lasted for a couple of hours. at the end of that session, he couldn't find anything that i was allergic, too. he did the mold and outdoors or something like that. he told me to come back and i never got around to it. all i know is that when the seasons change, any season, i tend to be sick.

Cold is my biggest enemy and during all these years i have tried and experimented many medications. I can share some of my findings with you.
1) No medicine is available for cold. Howvever those antibiotics is just a coincidence or it is just a seredipity that the antibiotic could recognize that kind of virus.
2)Puts some Vicks, Turmerics and Tulsi or Eqaliptus leaves in hot water and boil them till you get vapors. Cover the vessesl with a bedsheet and you get inside it and inhale. It is very difficult to saty for 2 misn but stay in for atlest 5 mins and inhale the fumes. Once you get out of he bedheet you will have instantaneous relief.
3) Keep your towles, bedsheets, pillow covers clean and dust free.
4) Try tieing some cloth around your nose when ou go out in pollution.
5) Keep on applying Vicks vaporub
