I am not Urdu speaking but I simply adore the language. It is the sweetest and most respectful language I have ever heard. Being an Indian, I understand Urdu somewhat as it is somewhat close to Hindi but I don’t understand pure Urdu. As a teenager, I had enrolled at Ramkrishna Mission Institute of Culture to learn Urdu but could not carry it on due to mainstream education pressure. I used to tune in to BBC Urdu service to listen to the news and try and make out the meaning of words. I also listen to a lot of old hindi songs to know more Urdu words. Urdu is an intrinsic part of Indian culture and irrespective of religion, it should be nurtured by the authorities so that anyone interested in learning this beautiful language can do so.
