Help fellow Mylotters. My partner has developed a very painful cold sore on his lip. What is the best remedy that you know to make it heal or at least stop hurting him?
Thanks.

What on earth is that? We don't have that here I don't think. Is it a lotion? Sounds as if it maybe has camphor in it, is that the type of thing? If he always used it it must be very effective, I wonder if they have it over here.

Thought so. Camphor used to be a very popular ingredient over here but I haven't seen it used in anything for ages. That tweaks my nosey bone so I shall have to investigate as to whether it has stopped being used, and why.

hi
i think you should get pyralvax, and put a drop on it a few time as a day.
alternatively, you could get dissolve one tablespoon of cornflour in some water and apply it to the cold sore and rinse after 5 mins , do this couple of times and it should go away.
also you could try some dessicated coconut it might work as well.
hope this helps

Wow! There is an assortment. How does the dessicated coconut work? I can see the cornflour, and we have that in the cupboard, but I can't see the coconut working. If you know I would be interested to find out so that I can put this into my remedy book!

L-lysine is the only thing you need. Take this supplement regularly and you won't get cold sores again. I used to get sold sores a lot at least once every few months. I found out about l-lysine and I took it regularly and I didn't get cold sores. Unfortunately I got lazy and stopped taking it for a long time and I got cold sores again but not as often as I did when I was younger. If you take it regularly you will not get them. You can also dab some tea tree oil on i and it will dry it up faster.

I had never heard of this product but it does seem to be the popular choice. I am definitely going to see if I can get some. Mind you, he hates taking tablets so I may have a battle to get him to actually take them :-)
Tea tree oil we always have, so that he can definitely try too.

Holding ice against it for five minutes, a couple of times a day will help to take the swelling out, numb it for awhile and often helps to reduce the size of the coldsore.
Also, get some lysine tablets from a health food store or chemist. Taking these can help to reduce the amount of time it will take for the coldsore to heal, and by taking them regularly, you can help prevent more from occuring.

Thank you. I do not know if we get Lysine over here but I shall certainly check. Do you know why they help to prevent a recurrence? Do they give a tonic to boost immunity or work in some other way?

My mum used to get cold sores on her lips and what she did as a remedy was to put a cold pack over the cold sore and after that to rub some antivirals bought from the pharmacy. Hope that your partner finds that helpful as well!

Thank you. I think I am going to see about buying in some antiviral cream because if he is run down he may get another one.
