Does weather affect your moods?

It's very cold and rainy right now-and this has coincided with a dip in confidence and happiness for me. It is not the first time it is happening-I tend to 'switch off' during such times, and my worst day ever in life was last year. It rained heavily on that day, and it was very cold. I was irritable, and unmotivated the whole day. Same like today. On cold, wet days like today, I tend to look at life negatively, am lazy, my creativity is low and I rarely move out. I was wondering if their is anyone out there who is like me-severely affected by the weather-whatever condition and how it affects you.
I am living with the fact that their will be no warm days for the next two months, but more of this crap.

Count me right on top of your list. I just HATE winter. No matter how sever summer is in India, I still love the clear skies, the blazing sun, the warmth of it, the liberty to bathe whenever I want to, to wear as little as I want to, the freedom to move unhindered by layers of warm clothing. This is the third week of November and already the sun is rising so late and setting so early. The afternoons are a dark, damp, depressing scenario and with leaves falling off, I suddenly feel very old and memories keep rushing in…childhood memories, teenage memories, memories of brighter days. At least you have the liberty of not doing anything…being a working mom, I am denied that too.
Yes, I am already waiting for mid January when my friend the Sun will once again start the journey to my hemisphere. And then one more month of old man winter and by mid-February, I would be warm again.

I am the opposite. I love rainy days. When it is rainy, I get a lot done at home. And if there is a thunderstorm, it is exciting to me.I prefer weather that is not too cold or hot, so spring and fall are my favorites. The closest I get to being depressed about the weather is when it snows. Unlike the rain, snow makes everything close down. You can't go anywhere. And if I had plans or if I had to work, I can't when it snows.I am stuck. The only thing I do is sleep.

Oh, you are my long lost twin and we were separated at birth! I am so happy to have found you! I love rain and storms. The louder the better!
That is where the similarity ends though, so perhaps you are only a distant cousin. I abhor sweating and have a skin secretion that attracts mosquitoes and other insects and I have severe allergies to the bites. I spend most of the summer huddled inside in the air conditioner. I never complain in the winter. The heating bill is the only downside.
Nice to meet you sararuthbeth! ~Donna

Kitchenwitchoftupper, I don't like the hazy hot of summer but I do like the warm days of spring.

Weather does affect my mood. Today, it is raining and I hate it because I need to bring an umbrella and walk at the wet street. But on the other side if it is raining I can have a nice sleep during the night. But if it is hot I hate it also because I will be sweating a lot and I have to turn on the electric fan and I will get a stomachache afterwards.

I am like you. I hate the cold and wet weather. My moods always drop drastically as the weather starts getting cold and the daylight becomes less and less. I grew up in the Midwest U.S. Then I moved South for 7 years. The weather stays warm so much longer and I loved it! Two years ago my husband (military) told me we were moving to the East coast. We have been here ever since. Aside from being able to go to New York City (we live in NJ), I hate it here! It's cold and rains all the time! It is so depressing here and I want to move South again badly, but it looks like we are stuck in this dreary state for 2 more long years.

Here in the UK our weather is strange because you can have all the seasons in one month! For me I love the autumn or fall months when it is not too hot or cold. I get very grumpy and irritable if it is too hot as I feel the warmth more. I like it to be nice and cool, dry and breezy. In the summer I get very sluggish too and everything is too much and I tend to get lethargic and tired. In the Winter I am more alert, happy and have more energy.

I seem to be getting worse as I get older when I dont have any sun. Its really terrible. I wish there was something that could be done for being so depressed. And I always happy and laughing but if I have 2 days in row forget it. I cant understand why some people arent affected like us.

Raymo,
It is my opinion that just about everything in all of Nature can affect your mood and your reactions.
We respond to colors and the placement of them. That is why most fast food restaurants are bright oranges and yellows and lime greens - these are colors that are so very stimulating that we want to get away from them - to the restaurant; the customer comes in, gets their food, eats it, gets out, makes room for another customer. Restaurants that charge much more money don't feel the need to rush the customer out the door, so they can decorate with very soft and muted colors to relax their patrons, but....if you go to the area where the employees are working, I am willing to bet the colors there aren't soft and muted! (smile).
Gemstones are another of Nature's treasures that we respond to. Some of them can be used for their healing properties.
Yes, Raymo, I do believe that weather can affect your mood. ~Donna

I used to live in Central New York, where the weather patterns are very static. In other words, if it rains, it is very likely it will be raining tomorrow. I have literally gone through months where I've seen the sun maybe once. This isn't exaggeration.
Biologically speaking, vitamins are activated by sunlight, and a lot of things go on when you can go outside. Sitting inside prevents you from being able to exercise and activate your own happy brain chemical known as serotonin. They say that weather in our past lives (evolutionarily) speaking probably gave us cues to stay indoors somehow, whether visually or cold or by just making us feel safer around a fire. This probably lingers in our daily lives, only to manifest itself in moods and Seasonal Affective Disorder, which is what I have.
What I've found that works is getting full-spectrum lightbulbs and putting them all over my house. They are typically sold anywhere lightbubls are sold, and have usually a purplish hue to the bulb itself. It'll say "full spectrum" on the side. These are engineered to mimic sunlight, and I found that it helps me a bit to read near them and have them in my house a lot.
Best of luck to you !

Yes weathers do affect my mood. Dull climate makes me feel dull. Sunny days are very good and refreshing for me. I like the rain. It gives me a feeling of closeness to nature.

Yes. I have been pretty much affected by the weather. There was this monring when it was raining. I suddenly feel gloomy. That was weird because it was a Monday, and things that week did not begin well. I ended up sick.

Hi,there! I think weather really affects a lot in our daily life. When it's sunny and a little bit windy,I'm pretty active and would like to go out for shopping or visiting. When it's raining, then I'm not in a very good mood.I feel sleep and lazy especially when it's also cold, just like the morning of winter.I like cloudy days better than rainy days cause it's not too hot and there's usually some wind. The air is nice and it's good to walk in the street.
