35 years of abusing alcohol can cause brain damage....who knew

Uh...just about everyone. I feel like ranting today, so you will have to excuse me. I am 29 years old and since before I was born my father has been a drunk. Not a happy drunk either. He has gone to rehab twice and is still an alcoholic. my mother finally convinced him to go to the doctor to see about getting meds to help him stop drinking. Well, something in the medication triggered something else and not he is having all sorts of issues. He was referred to a neurologist and had an MRI done. They doctors think that there is something wrong with the cerebellum of his brain but they don't know what. Anyway, now my dad (who is a very intelligent man by the way) is mad because no one ever told him that abusing alcohol could cause brain damage. WHAT?!?!?! Maybe he is stupider than I thought.

Thats like people who sue mcdonalds for making them fat...or people who smoke and are surprised when they get cancer. i'm sorry that you had to grow up with a drunk father. I hope everything works out for the best.

I can't believe that people actually sue McDonald's for making them fat. It is dumb. Why not sue Little Debbie and Mrs. Fields while you are at it.

I am so sorry that you had to grow up with that. My girls dad is the same as your father and it has been very painful for them as they love him so much. Unlike your dad, he has never once tried to do anything to change his lifestyle but rather convinced them that they have to accept him as he is. They do but it has been hard for them. As for your father not knowing that heavy drinking can cause brain damage...well that is just ridiculous. It damages your liver, kidneys and only stands to reason....the brain and basically your life.

I feel bad for your girls as well. I do not really like my father at all. I mean I guess I love him cause he is my dad, but I do not like him. I feel bad for him yes, but I do not fell sorry for him like he wants.
