I am a proud left hander..lol I use my left hand for writing and eating. The odd thing is, I use my right hand for hitting a softball, shooting a basketball or even rolling a bowling bowl (but this is not the point I am wanting to make..lol). I have read online at a site for left handed people this little fact that I found somewhat interesting. I want to see how true it holds up for others. It is true for my husband (who is also left handed) and myself, along with some other lefties I have spoken with. So here it is, I read that left handed people who use their eating utnesils with their left hand, when using a fork and a knife will use their right hand to cut with the knife, keeping their fork in their left hand. When only using the knife, (for example cutting a carrot), the left handed person will use their left hand to guide the knife. I thought that was just a little interesting information. I hope I get many lefties to answer, I would like to see if this stands true for a lot of lefties. All those right-handed people feel free to comment too. Do you know of any thought provoking facts about right handers..just curious. Thanks in advance to all who take the time to comment.

I'm right handed so I can't comment on the whole left handed experiences except to say that I can't do much with my left hand. Everything is done with my right hand. Now I can type with my left hand but that's about it. I've tried writing with my left hand but it looks like I held the pen between my toes. That is how my writing looks if I write with my right hand...like I held the pen between my toes. It is hard to make out the writing. Thanks for the post.

I am left handed but I use my right hand for a lot of things- like using the mouse, playing guitar, using scissors etc. The only thing I seem to use my left hand for is writing, drawing and such like. I heard somewhere that left handers dye 6 years or so before right-handers. How scary is that?

Are you serious about that? Geesh, I hope that isn't true...humm, I will certainly want to be looking into that..interesting. Thanks for the post. Have a great day/night.

I am right handed...But I know a lot of left handed people. I noticed the guiding of the other hand. It is very interesting how we do things...I know Kayah is now going to occupational therapy b/c she is profoundly imapired, she relies on the right side of her body for everything. Good post.

Yes, some say it is very interesting to watch me write. My sister-in-law for some reason is amused by it. She says that when I am writing that I make the letters backwords. I don't mean that they are written down backwords, but in the progress of writing them she says I go the opposite way that a right handed person does...strange. Love ya girl, thanks for the response. I am right handed and I have found that I can do some things both right and left handed. Some sports I play better left and right handed. I can sort of write with my left, well it's clear enough to read just takes awhile to write. I'm glad that I can do things both left and right handed because it would come in handy if I ever hurt my right hand(eg broke it etc).

Yes, you are correct, being able to use both hands is convenient. I broke my thumb on my left hand a few years back and let me tell you, my writing was so horible, it was really hard for people to read. Thanks for the post, have a great day/night.

I'm a lefty too!! =) I'm pretty much the same way as you...I write and eat with my left hand, but I play sports with my right hand. I also use a computer mouse with my right hand and scissors too! As for the knife thing, that's really funny because now that I actually think about it, it's completely true for me. When I eat I use my right hand to cut with a knife, but when I cutting up something, like an apple, I use my left hand! Weird! Thanks for the info, very interesting!

Yes, we are exactly the same when it comes to left handedness..lol I use my right when using scissors and I use my right when using the mouse on the computer...strange. Thanks for the post. Have a good day/night.

Thats what my mate is like. He does everyhing left handed and then when he goes to pick up a baseball bat and bat he hits right handed. Its quite confusing.

I use my right for writing, but my left is the most dominant whenever I use them. I can cut by using the knife on both of my hands, as well as fork and other utensils. I play basketball using my left hand, that I guess it is because most of my relatives on my father's side (including him) are left handed.

I think that is my issue too, I use my left for writing and for eating...but for sports, I guess I feel that my right hand is more dominant and that is why I use that one. Thanks for the comment, have a great day/night.

hi nelly5, i am actually right handed, but i do many things in the left handed way... this is because my mum is a lefty :D as it was my mum that showed me how to do most everything as a child (my dad was at work, she was a stay at home mum) i learned to do things "her way" so i eat with my knife an fork in the same way that you do rather than that of a traditional righty lol, i tend to kick with my left, but punch with my right (hehe, i confuse people), i use scissors in my left hand, but i can't write with my left at all (infact a 3 year old could make more literary sense than me with my left). LOL!

Yes you may confuse people somewhat..lol. I understand you not being able to write with your left, you should see how I write with my right hand. I feel the same as you, a three year old could write better than I do with my weak hand. lol Thanks for commenting. Have a great day/night.

I always keep my fork in my left hand and cut with my right...and I'm a righty. I don't know any intersting righty facts. I am curious why you bowl righty? Lefties have an advantage in bowling (or so I'm told). I wouldn't know beause I don't bowl, but my s/o thinks it's great that our one boy may be a lefty. He keeps saying it will be good for him with bowling.

I guess I bowl right handed because that is the hand I use for all sports. I feel that I have more control with that hand. I don't know why, considering that I write with my left hand, I know, I am strange. lol Thanks for the post. Have a great day/night.

Hi Nelly5, I'm not lefthanded but I use my left hand, and bat from the left side when hitting a baseball, and for holding a hockey stick. However my biggest problem is...I can't tell right from left, unless I stop and think about it.This can be a Big problem at times, and rather embarrassing at other times. There's a name for this condition but right now I can't think of it. Maybe tomorrow! (ambidexterous is when you can use either hand equally well)

Hey a little trick that a lot of people teach young children to remember left from right. Hold up your hand with your pointer finger and thumb sticking out..palm down, with other 3 fingers folded, what hand makes the letter L...that would be your left. Hope it helps.. Thanks for the comment, have a great day/night.

I am right handed, but I was left handed when I was a kid and my grand parents (I was staying with them for some time when I was like 4-5 years) teached me the other way. I know it may sound crazy but my grandmother wanted me to write with right hand so she practised with me all over and over again (I don't really remmember just some blurred memories) and I started writing with right hand. I do everything else with left however.

You know, I find it strange that people use to not want their child/grandchild to write with their left hand. I guess years and years ago, it use to symbolize being demonic. I know I am not demonic..lol but just find that odd. My parents use to smack my left hand and tell me "no" when I was younger..lol They didn't want me to be a leftie, I guess. But it didn't work for them, but then again, maybe that is why I am confused and use my left for some things and my right for to do other things..lol Have a great day/night, thanks for the comment.

My boyfriend is left handed, and he throws left handed, he plays baseball left handed, he eats with his right hand, but he writes with both, and he prefers to write with his right hand. It's different. I'm a righty and I tend to do everything with my right hand.

Thanks for the comment. I do have a question about your boyfriend, is he very good at sports? I have noticed (on my childrens basaball team) that it seems like the left handed pitchers always confuse the batter and can strike out many. Thanks again for the comment, have a great day/night.
