Do you actually earn more by starting new discussions or by replying to existing discussions started by others. Because I see some of our more senior members at mylot starting more discussions while I am mostly replying to discussions. Am I missing out on something? Thanks in advance to all who answers! =)

You will earn both from the discussions that you started as well as from the comments that you left at people's discussions. Which one will give you more? I have no idea. I spent most of my times commenting rather than starting and I have been earning okay so far.

Welcome to myLot! And if you have the time, then you can do some experiments as suggested by some members up there. Cheers!

I find myLot to be more profitable when answering discussions. I show a much larger profit, so to speak, posting answers. My problem is I can post a discussion but not enough myLotters respond. A good day for me, since I have one referral who isn't active, is right around $.20 per day. Good luck and have a nice Thanksgiving.

i think you earn it both ways... old timers may just earn a lot because they have a lot of active referrals :-)

mylot does not give details about how they pay, or how they determine how much to pay. My suggestion would be to go a couple days and just post new discussions. Then compare your earnings to the days when you only respond to other users' discussions. You can reply to responses you get on your own discussions, but you don't get credit for those. I can tell you that the more people you have in your friends list, the more responses you will get to your discussions. I don't really know if you get paid more for discussions with more responses, but it seems logical that the number of responses you get would have an effect on your earnings.

I think we earn more by posting quality responses. As for starting new discussions, I am not too keen in it. But I notice that some members can start more than 10 discussions at one time, I so envy them !

Until today, I still don't really know what is quality discussion or response because I think it's hard to put a mark to what is actually quality and what is not. Something quality to someone might not be quality to someone else. But of course, I just contribute what I can over here on mylot and just hope that other people think it's a quality post! Thanks for your response by the way; I myself am not too keen on posting discussions. I only post one once in a long time.....

You are paid both for the discussions and responses you give. Once your star is 10 then your rate of credit too increases. But to achieve 10 You have to maintain a golden balance of both. Means do not only make discussions or do not only give responses. More and more friends , then more and more responses to your discussions. The idea of Mylot is to make this site popular by participating more and more people.

Ohh i understand now how we get a good star reputation. Must doing both, start discussion and response discussion.

When I joined mylot in August 2006, I was thinking all pros and cons to maximise the earnings. Now I find it not a worthwhile exercise. Whatever you do, do it qualitatively. I mean let the discussions be of high quality - meaningful, useful and interesting. Similarly the responses be interesting, useful and thought provoking and ultimately be comprehesive. That should take care of everything.

nowhere is it clearly stated that starting new discussions lead to greater earnings. it is just that when people create their own discussions, it is their thing and its easy for them to keep writing more about the topic. and i hope you know that the more you write, the more you earn!

Hello gerald_lian. I have been a mylotter here for seven months, but still I can not tell whether we gain more by posting new discussions or by responding to discussions. I think that there is no difference bewteen the two as I cannot see any difference. Most of the time I am happy to respond to my friends discussions on my friendslist, because I have so many good friends here with nice discussions for me to respond to and like in one of my discussions that I started, I am not that creative in starting a new discussion unless I find one that I think is a little bit interesting to mylotters. So, my dear friend. I hope that you will be happy to either post new discussions or respond to friends' discussion. There is not much difference though so far as the earnings are concerned, I guess. I hope that you will find more answers from different mylotters. Have a good day, dear friend.

I don't think this is a "valid" discussion :P You might get into trouble. I'm pretty sure that we're not supposed to discuss about how to earn on myLot because they've made it pretty clear that they don't disclose that information. From my experience however, I find that it's more rewarding to respond to discussions than to start them :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I noticed that I earned more in answering discussions than posting, so I just response and response everyday and just post a discussion when there's something I wanna ask.

Well the truth is "neither". I know I just confused you even more. We get paid for our overall participation in a 24 hour period. We do not get paid for individual activites such as posting a new discussion or answering one. Our over all participation (how I understand it) is graded in how we did in that 24 hour period of quality. We are then paid for that 24 hour period, not any one activity we did.... I don't know how else to explain it, its all in the FAQ and guidelines.
