My twins will be a year old just before christmas, so I have double (quadruple really) the toys to buy. Please tell me what you thought to be a waste of money. Is there something you got that your child never even touched? Did something break right away? Defects, dangers, or just plain annoying? I want to know it all!

I agree with sillychick on this one. A lot of those electronic toys aren't at all developmentally appropriate. My son got a couple of them and didn't really understand what to do with them. He's starting to get the hang of them now, but he's almost 2. The age on some say 6 months plus, but I've never seen a six month old that could do that stuff!
Make sure and check recalls before you buy anything. There are so many toy recalls right now. We are mostly just doing books and DVD's for Christmas this year.
The toys that my son enjoyed the most when he was around a year old were block books, his shape sorter, and big cars. He also likes the characters that sing and dance.

The worst toys are leapfrog, vtech, and other electronic toys that claim to teach concepts such as letter, numbers, shapes and colors. They are not developmentally appropriate and are a complete waste of time and money. Other than that, just be sure to avoid anything that has been recalled.
