My sister called me yesterday to have me give her information about Pneumonia. My nephew who will be 15 on Wednesday is sick. I was a little annoyed with my sister because she said she assumed it was the flu so she didn't take him to the doctor last week. I told her that with him having Asthma, if you think he has the flu you need to take him right away.
On Sunday, they went to an outside wedding and he sat in the car the entire time. She said he was having chills, nausea, and headaches. They didn't keep him, but gave him antibiotics. I am so glad she got him there in time. I know that I worry to much. But although I have 11 nieces and nephews, I can not afford to be without any one of them.

I am glad they caught it before he landed in the hospital. My son also has asthma, which is mostly triggered by allergies. Everytime he gets sick, his asthma acts up and alot of the time, he ends up in the hospital. He usually has pneumonia or is really close to it. It is so expensive to go to the Dr., you really don't want to go unless you have to, but you really have to be careful, especially if you have asthma.

I understand what you are saying. There is also the time constraint. People are really to busy to be running to the hospital all the time. That is why I told her that she needs to teach him to bundle up. She says that he goes out sometimes in the cold without a jacket.

Awwwww sorry to hear that Rozie. I hope he is feeling better. I don't think I would of gone to the wedding if I knew my son was in that condition, mind you its hard to tell if you think it's just the flu.
I hope he gets better soon!

Dont be to hard on your sister after all she does love and care about her son its not like she wanted for this to happen. When we take our kids to the doctors for a flu we are made to fill guilty for waisting doctors time with such "small" thing and they almost never give anything but over the counter meds and recoment fluids and rest (which we knew even before we went there). Pneumonia is hard do diagnose and somethimes it comes on very fast. Plus as it is also part of the flu family it has all the same simptoms and many doctors dont do a thing.
Hope he is well soon and all the best.

That is no good. Poor little mite. Just hope he listens to the doctors and takes his medication like a good boy! lol. These days, parents don't like jumping to take their kids to the doctors. I know we don't, we keep an eye on them and if they get worse, then we go. You see, doctors often look at parents as being paranoid. There are many parents who take their kids in when they sneeze! lol. thankfully, my darlings have never spent time in hospital (except when they were born). The one time we took our oldest, she had a stomach bug and we really didn't know what was wrong. We waited for the taxi, took her in and what do you know? The little dear was fine! We got there and she was as right as rain! Now, when she gets a tummy bug, we know it only last a few hours. none of the others have been sick like that yet!

yeah this is surptising they are the clear cut symptoms of pneumonia thats chill, fever and nausea, breathing difficulty is one other main sign. moreover there is laboured breathing with sound like breath with sound.... flu is not generally accompained with fever and chills.

Pneumonia is definitely not something to mess around with. I had it when I was little and I remember vividly how horrible I felt. My friend's little girl got it two years ago and she ended up being hospitalized for a week. They thought it was just some simple respiratory thing, but it turned into pneumonia quickly. I hope he's feeling better now!

Yes I know how you feel. I dont' take chances when it comes to my children. I don't think any of the over the counter medications really work so as soon as they start with the symptons I get them to the doctors. Doctors are paid the big money because they can diagnose the symptons and give you something to help you get better. I have six children and if one gets sick and it is not handled immediately then it would be a terrible cycle as it goes from one child to the other until all are sick and then starts again.

Hey Rozie,
I hope your nephew gets better soon. Pneumonia is an awful thing to catch, especially when one suffers from asthma. But he is old enough for it not to be too dangerous. Don't worry Rozie, I am sure he will be just fine. You wait and see!

hi rozie...You are such a great aunt! Showering your love to all your nieces n nephews. Western med can only treat pneumonia or asthma when there is an emergency. It cannot cure a patient.
My girl had bronchitis when she was 2 yrs old n she eventually became asthmatic. During tht time, I only depended on doctors's prescriptions. She was still asthmatic when she reach the age of 20.
2 yrs ago I started giving her Cordycep (chinese natural herb). Her lungs has become stronger n asthma is gonna be history. Cordycep strengthens our lungs, heart, reproductive organs, balances hormones, improve circulations, etc.. the natural herbs i consume do not come from China. It's from Malaysia.

My family is my biggest weekness. Especially, my nieces and nephews. I don't care how old they get, when I think of them, I see them as babies. There are 11 of them and all are very precious to me. My older sister says that I need to have children of my own. I hope I do soon.
