Tricks to making a glowing tomato

OK, I don't know if anyone has tried that trick to making a glowing tomato, but if anyone has and they got it to work, any hints would be greatly appreciated. I've tried it with Diamond strike anywhere matches, but had no luck. I don't know if I need to grind the match shavings into a powder, or if I used the wrong tomato. This is just plain cool and I would really like to get it to work.
