Network21/Amway - anyone tried it? Does it work?

I've been approached to join Network 21, which is associate to the Amway network marketing business opportunities. It all sounds good but does it really work? My friend has joined and she said she has been receiving around $50 bonus every 2-3 months without selling anything or recruiting anyone. Sounds too good to be true!
