Do you prefer a Real or Fake Christmas Tree?

I have been trying to decide whether to get a fake tree this year. I have always gone out and cut down a fresh christmas tree. But it is getting harder to go out and get one because my husband is always busy. So I have to wait. I am thinking of getting a fake one, but it just won't be the same. Of course I won't have any mess with the needles, but I will miss the smell. I could get air fresheners that smell like pine? What are your thoughts and what kind of tree do you like.

Knowing my cat, Missy, if I put up a tree she would be up the tree and it wouldnt be long before the tree and Missy would both be down..I would love a tree..but I dont know of any that can withstand the antics of rowdy cats..I have two who run up and down the house and high speeds..

i love cats. last night my cat decided he wanted to play so wherever i went he flew past me at 100 miles an hour. this went on for 1/2 hour. he is funny. then he stalks my other girl kitty. if i say to him get her, he runs and jumps on her back and she screams. he doesnt hurt her. i should video it some day.

Being a mother of a 4, 3, and 2 year old and being 6 months pregnant I'll do anything to simplifly life and for that reason we have an artifical tree. To make up for the smell I usually have scented pinecones. I don't think that I would recommend using the pine air freshners!!

I have a fake Christmes tree, but for a few years I have been looking at buying a real one that I can leave outside so it can grow and I can decorate it every year. Pretty greedy I guess lol but at least by having the real tree outside others can enjoy it.

I've always had a real tree, and no matter how tight my budget, will always get one.
Just another one of the things that makes christmas special to me so if it makes christmas better, i'd say get the tree!
And force your husband to come with you C;

I have a fake one. My cats love to climb and eat on trees and I know some forms of pine trees can be toxic to cats.
Plus if they climb it and break a branch, it's easy to pop back in place. If I had a real one, it'd be a stump when they got done destroying it.

I've never had a real tree in 31 (I'll be 31 in December) years. Our artificial tree is very special to me. The original one we had was bought the day after I was born. I was sick and in the hospital and my mom was very depressed that she would be going home without me so my dad went out, bought the tree and had it set up and decorated when she got home.
I got out of the hospital a couple days before Christmas. Every Christmas since then (until I was 19) my mom set the tree up the day after my birthday as a reminder. It was a nice, full tree to start with--not one of those cheap, fake looking ones. It eventually fell apart. I was sad my dad didn't wait just one year to get a new one, but 19 years isn't too bad for a tree.
The one we have now is 100 times easier to put together. The old one you had to insert each individual branch into the trunk. Our new one (haha, new--it is 12 years old now) the top part is already together and the bottom branches hook to the center at the top and just lay on this round frame attached to the bottom. It is very pretty but pretty big.

It just doesn't feel like Christmas unless there is a real tree. The past 2 years we had no tree at all due to our puppy. Well, hubby sold my husky so we will have a real tree this year. I just don't like the fake ones. Ok, there is no mess, but isn't that part of the fun? I love the smell of the real ones.

I prefer a fake one, you are so right about all the mess with needles. And I have 3 young children in the house, so I think it is better to have a fake one, so they don't hurt themselves. And actually I am allergic to certain trees and such, so in that case I also would not want a real one.

Hi,there! I would prefer a real Christmas tree cause it gives me the feeling that it's fresh and new.I like real things and it's more alive. It's wonderful to put things in it to decorate it. The fake tree also has the good side. You can use it next year:) Anyway,I prefer the real one. Hopefully you'll get the one you want. Best wishes for Christmas, then it's a little bit early,I still wanna send out my best regards^_^ Have a nice day!

We always had a fake one, since I was little. Then a few years ago, we got real ones 2 years in a row...but the mess was just too much! Now we have 2 kitties and a puppy, in addition to a new baby, so not only would it take up too much time, but they're very dangerous for the animals, and I'm not willing to risk any of my babies' health for a pine smelling holiday! LOL! We have a fake, pre-lit one now that I add extra lights to, as well as our ornaments and such...it's nice, it's even "fiber optic" so it has normal xmas lights, and the "needles" light up and slowly change color. I think it's a lot prettier than any real one I've ever decorated lol...but I do still decorate our real pine trees outside.

i just got a fiber optic one for my office. it is real pretty with the lights off.
everytime one of my customers come in, i shut off the light to show them how pretty it is.
i guess the other problem with a fake tree is i have 3 cats and they love to eat the fake ones. i just pulled something out of the closet with a tiny fake tree on it and there they were chomping away.
thanks.

i've always had a fake tree. everyone in my family has a fake tree. i've never been around a real one for christmas. i think fake ones are really helpful. you don't have to worry about buying a new one every year and they last for a long time. plus you don't have to water it and worry about it drying out if you forget to water it. plus, a dry, real christmas tree could be a fire hazard with the lights and all. for me it's easier to just have a fake one. but, if you're into a traditional christmas, then real is a good choice. you just have to make sure you do a good up-keep on it and all.

Hi, badkat..with the exception of one year in my life as a kid, I've never had a fake tree. I just can't imagine Christmas without that real tree. I just love the way it smells up the whole place with that pine scent and it's kind of nice having a bit of a forest in an apartment even if it's just for a little while

Up until about 3 years ago we always had a fresh tree. We also went to the farm yearly and cut it down. The smell of a new tree is awesome and I miss that but besides that I am loving my fake tree.
Real ones always has a bald spot that mus be hidden.
Many times real ones also are lopsided and tend to fall
Real ones catch on fire a lot easier then a fake one
Real ones have to be watered and can dry out
Fake ones are easy and it saves money. YOu can use it year after year and only have to pay once.

I would definitely love a real one but its very unlikely since I live in the Philippines so obviously we have a fake one at home.

I'll definitely get a fake one that looks real. Out Christmas tree was just a dollar when we bought it and it looks really nice and real. And the good thing is that you can reuse it.
