I should just give up...

This morning I had those frozen hash brown patties for breakfast, that you just toss in the skillet for a few minutes. Nothing difficult. And yet, I managed to start a fire. I remembered what to do, smothered it and all, and my husband came in the room to help me. But the whole apartment was full of smoke. :P
So I guess I'm not a cook after all!
And yes, D, I was thinking of you.

My sister once managed to burn soup...and melt the paneling on the wall just making toast...these things happen and I bet whatever you did this morning you won't do again. No one is born being able to cook so don't worry about it. You'll figure it out eventually and if not be thankful, not all of us have a good reason to make our hubbies cook for us.

Haha, those are some great stories.
I have a toaster that has part of a bread bag pattern burned into it because it was too close to the toaster and melted on it... toast is hard. *laughs*
Thanks for sharing with me! And yes, it is good to have a reason to make our hubbies cook for us. My hubby is a good cook too. :)

LOL Things like that happen to all of us.
Next time take a few moments to check if anything
is on or under the burner before using. It takes
a while and a lot of mistakes to learn how to cook.
My daughter always wanted to turn the stove up so
everything could cook faster...little did she know
that it would end up burned on the outside and raw
on the inside, until she tried it.
She is a pretty good cook now and she takes her time
when cooking...no more burned food.
Don't give up yet. Who knows you may be a great cook
someday soon.

*laughs* Yeah, next time I'll check my first. My husband thinks maybe we should actually replace those burner pans (or whatever they're called) because they're such a mess. :P
Haha, I just feel funny because so many of the people I know are good cooks already, and people automatically seem to expect me to know how to cook, and I'm just not good at it. :p

I am glad no one was hurt.I guess it is time to give up. But at least you tried. I don't cook, but I can bake. I would never try to cook. But look on the bright side, there are microwaves and just heat and eat foods out there. No fuss no muss. And no fires.

A plus for telling all of us how lame you are! (You know that I am teasing you). And, did you know that if you put eggs in a pot to boil and leave them on the stove to go watch TV, and then get a shower, and then watch more TV, and then run to the kitchen because you hear loud explosions happening in there and you need to save your babies what will happen? I will tell you. The water will boil off. The eggs will expand out of their shells. The shells will burn badly but you won't know that in advance because smoke detectors haven't yet been invented or if they have you don't know about them. And the grand finale is that the eggs grow so big that they burst in glorious yellow and greyish white all over (and I do mean all over) your kitchen walls and ceiling.
Can you tell that this is from personal experience a very long time ago?Crap happens in the kitchen, lecanis, and no one was hurt. Love you bunches~Donna

Haha, yup I think she's pretty well-known. :P
I love hash browns too, and usually I make the real kind too, not just those frozen things. But I was being lazy, and it was supposed to be easy. Supposed to be. lol
Haha, my hubby is far better cook than me, and yes, it's great. :P

One messed up meal does not constitute a bad cook. Maybe you just need more practice. Think of it as a life long learning experience. You will get good at cooking somethings with practice and others meals you will choose not to make. If you started a fire, you might not have been paying attention to what you were doing. Besides, those hash browns burn easily if left in the skillet too long.

Hi lecanis,
I am so sorry to hear about your "disaster in the kitchen" please don't let it get you down though. everyone makes mistakes ... it's called being human. The only way to get better is to keep practicing!
Luv & Hugzz, PurpleTeddyBear.

Thought of taking cooking lessons? And to maximize the experience, drag your husband along. Oops, I should be telling that to your husband-he pretends that he wants to learn how to cook when in real essence he's telling you that your cooking is boring.
Guess I am a better cook than you are.

Dont give up on cooking hun. Just keep on practicing. Chose a few easy recipes and just keep cooking those until they are the way you want them. Then add a new recipe pretty soon you will be cooking anything and everything.
