Why do people pick "best response" after only 4 responses?

I just responded to a discussion that has only 4 (mine being #4) responses and I noticed the best has already been picked. I don't pay attention to how many best responses I have because they really don't matter to me but I've noticed this many times. There are members who won't reply to a discussion if they don't have a chance at best response and I only know that from discussions I have read.
The only thing I can think of is that the people who do this don't understand how it works or they don't want to deal with a large number of unresolved discussions at a later time. What do you think the reason is? Do you pick the best response so you won't have a lot of unresolved or do you wait until you find one that you really think is the best?

Yes, you are right on that. Most of those who do this are either them newbies or those who still don't have a complete information of how it should be awarded, in which they should be well-informed of.
There are also those who just chooses, then don't comment under it which makes you think sometimes of what are the reasons they've chosen it. This happens to me many times, I know that it's great to be chosen as best but there should be explanation or reactions as to why it was chosen just to be fair for other posters.

This is a discussion site, it is our responsibility to put comments on discussions we receive. Since you are the threadhost, not commenting on them aside from choosing will be of your choice. A response on my post no matter how many they are, will be well appreciated, as long as they post within the topic..

You all bring up good points. I don't see a need to respond when I pick a br. I have noticed that some members only pick what seems to be their closest friends as br and I watch for these things.

Maybe they don't understand how it works or maybe after a certain number of hours and if they still haven't received a response then they choose anyways. I have done that if I have only received a few after 8 hours or so, or even after a day.
Most of the time I give it a day or two from the last response before I check it.

I usually give it about a month before I'll go and pick a br. That gives everyone including new people a chance to respond to an old discussion that might interest them.

I respond either way. It makes no difference if I earn the BR.
Sure it's nice to earn but I do this for stress relief and fun.
I don't worry too much about it. Usually. HAHAHA!!

For me that's a big reason for being here on mylot...STRESS RELIEF! I don't care if I don't get another br...it's not going to effect my earnings any or chase my friends away!

I'm never in a big hurry to choose a best response, ctry, because I know that it takes time for people to notice your discussions every now and then. I have had the same thing happen when I attempt to make a response to a post. I will find that a best response has been chosen after a few members respond. If I have a valid offering to the discussion I will still go ahead with my response.

The real question is why do people pick the best response after only ONE person responds.
I can't help but wonder if they think that it earns them money when they have a best response to their discussion. Peope are pretty dumb sometimes, thinking that if they post 20 one line lame questions in a row they'll strike it rich so I wouldn't be surprised if money has something to do with it.
I have a ton of discussions I've still yet to pick the best responses of.

lol...it's getting to you too huh? Don't you love opening a page only to see 7 one liner discussions by the same person and none of them say anything? I'm sure they are the ones who will pick the first response as the best one.....

Definitely. I have some people who I get the email notifications for who will literally post like 18 new discussions one after another within like 5 minutes time... and I'll delete every single one of them because I pretty much avoid those kinds of discussions. They just don't seem worthy my two seconds it would take to respond.

I think the best response tag is given to the best response you got for your discussion.what i actually do i atleast keep my discussion for a month till i get enough responses, because i feel the more responses you have, the more choices you have to pick the best response.i usually read each of the response and give them marks accordingly.if i like a response very much, immeiately i give a plus mark to it.i usually give or mark a best response only if there are atleast five responses for my discussions.i dont mind waiting till i get five responses and i never marks a best response in haste.

I always wait.that way i can look them all over and pick out the one that i feel has put more effort into their responses.Sometimes i have a very hard time picking the best response because people do have a lot of very good responses.I have seen this done many many times, and i do not know why they do it.Even if you answer a discussion that has already been picked for best response, you still get credit for responding, even if you do not have the best response.

GUILTY!!!! I have picked a best response when I only got one response. The thing is, they were discussions I posted that had no responses for a very long time. I figured if it took so long to get one response, I probably wouldn't be getting more. I have since earned to be a bit more patient and not jump to give BR to the first person that replies to my very old topic.
PEACE

Hello!
Usually I wait 2 weeks - a month until I choose the BR in any of my discussions, since I don't make any discussions that much so it doesn't really bother me at all. As much as possible I try not be be biased in choosing the BR and try to be fair, I don't just give BR to my friends, I give it to the deserving one. If I get a BR am thankful, if not doesn't matter, it won't stop me from responding.
We all have our own styles in choosing the BR, some because they're a friend, some when the responder hit the jackpot reply to the discussion, and some just don't like waiting for days or weeks. Take care *smile*

Because sometimes they think that is the best answer they can ever get.. And they have the right to do that as its their discussions..
Sometimes we think that the other mylotter gave a better response than the one who is marked with a good response.. Sometimes we people evaluate things according to what we perceive.. And its really up to you if you give the better answer than anyone else..
I can see mylot is more than a sharing a thought not a competition of what you ought to say.

The reason behind that could possibly be on either the easily resolvable issue of unawareness, or just how simple the answer to their questions may just so happen to be, and poof, there goes a poster right to the save in no time and that's pretty much when the complete answer is found in regards to what they're looking for. So they simply don't hesitate to give off that Best Response "award", not wanting to wait any much longer as others would in terms of waiting a couple of days, weeks, or even months (or years for that matter!).

i really don't know why some people do that. i think they do that because they are too lazy to wait for more responses. so what they usually do if they are not really planning to visit their discussion is that they will immediately choose the best response.

I've never had a discussion which had enough posts for a best response... and I don't think I've ever had one.
To be honest, I don't really care if i never get any Best Responses- do you get extra money for doing them or something?

lol....nope...no extra money but I did hear we get less if we have a lot of unresolved discussions so I don't know!

I have many posts that I have started months ago that still don't have a best response. But some of them are posts where there won't be a best response. But there are some discussions that I started and the first response is the best. But i do wait for some more to respond before i mark it. Sometimes I have to read pages of posts before I find my favorite.

Members have their own style of choosing the best response... i encountered one who marks the best response to the first who will respond to his topic... while immediately do it when they see the answer that they want...
As for my case... i always wait a while before i give the best response mark... sometimes my wait will last weeks or months...
