Omg! I feel so bad like you have nooo idea! i almost cried. because i know stewart(her pet gerbil) is in pain..well i was my lotting last night.and i herd stewart like doing his little sqeeks but they wernt his normal squeeks. so i got nervous got up and went to him.sure enough half of his tail was gone, just musscle and bone exposed, thats when i started to cry. then i got it together and i called the pet stores for a number for a animal rescue lady that lived down the way somewere. and none of them had her number..(bs) anyway. so i am like panicing cause i know hes in pain and i dont have the money to take him to a vet. i knew that they would really know what to do and stop the pain for him.. so i called the emergency vet to see if they had her number or was there somthing they could do.. i mean i would have giving stewart to them if that ment they would fix him so he isnt in pain..well still nothing. so it was bleeding. the more he runs around the harder it was bleeding.. not like a human though.lol just like a tiny cut on our hand.anyway so i had to wash his tail with warm water, put corn starch on it to soak up the blood and to block it from bleeding. Now today i will have to put antibiotic ointment (neosporin) on it 3 times a day...i got this all of the internet by the way. i pray this works and is real info...supposedly it will dry up and fall off... this is a common injury in gerbils because there tail is not connected to their bidy. its like a defence mekonism, if somthing grabs on to its tail he can tug pull it off and run.. its really weird but pretty intresting. u should look it up.. andyways..i didnt have any questions at the beginning but as writing i thought of a few...~*Have you ever had a gerbil and this happend?*~ ~*How did it turn out?*~kenzel my little girls has had stewart for like 8 months now:( it makes me wana cry.. i know hes in so much pain:( i wonder if they have gerbil pain medacine at like the petstores? anyone know?

Oh no! The poor guy! I dont like animals in pain either it really breaks my heart. I hope what you did will work too, I really have no idea. My friend has some mini gerbils, they are really cute. She fed them some dry cereal because she was out of their food and didnt have time to go to get some and it made them sick. She said they were freaking out in the cage, running around all crazy and squealing like she had never heard them squeal before. She felt so bad! She had to take them to the vet and he got them back on track. Dont give them dry cereal! lol Bay Lay Gray xx

LOL I guess it does, and to top it off they are drinking water ontop of the cereal. OUCH! Poor little fellas. Well does he seem to be getting better Wifey? Just keep putting that ointment on it and it will heal Im sure. Keep it clean too. I think Stewie will be just fine! Bay xx

My little brother had a gerbil when we were younger and the same thing happened to him. He grabbed his tail when he tried to get away and the tail just came right off. He was mortified but everything was okay and it hel quite nicely by itself. Now the gerbil just has a short tail instead of the long one. Speedy should be fine. they actually heal quickly and you shouldn't have to do anything.

Hey jordan, thanks for writing and reading! I love any type of animal, unless there trying to eat me or somoene else:P. and he is a gerbil not a mouse. not much of a diff but some what kinda You should see the one my daughter originally wanted! he was a huge black rat. and he was way cool i so would have gotten him for her,but they are expensive to take care of they grow so fast always has to have plenty of toys because there teeth grow so fast its crazy! thanks for your responce:D
