Dear friends, do you believe that grass on the other side of the fence looks greener? Did it ever happened with you that you thought that the grass on the other side of the fence was greener, but when you reach on the other side…you did not find it greener. Please share your thoughts and experience. Thanks in advance.

Hi dearest, you have pushed a very sensitive button here. Deepak, I had always thought that I would get to enjoy more or get more life by being on the other side of the ideal. I decided on the most important decision in life by thinking thus, did not understand how hurt my family would be! Subsequently, I understood that grass looks greener from the other side and once you go there you get to see the real color! However, yearning for the good things in life make us what we are eventually and we get to realise true essence of life. "The grass is greener on the other side" syndrome, if I may call so - is but our passion to live a better life, to improve on the quality of living and to better our status. The process od distinguishing between the reality and perception comes once we cross the fence. And I feel, this has significant effect on our life. I have learned from it and so have many of us. Thanks.

So you can guide others with your experience that grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. The key to life is 'contentment'....at which point of life of at what point of time of one's life..one feels contended....the moment one can make himself/herself understand...no I feel contended.....one will not see other side of the fence for greener posture. Our mistakes teache us very valuable experiences in our life and how do you become experienced.....by committing mistakes. Have a great day! :):)

Dear deepak, I agree with you totally. 'Contentment" is a very important state of life. Some ppl are generally happy and contended, while others inspite of having it all are not so happy. some always cry over their fate while others take it in their stride. ppl who cannot live upto what they are into feel that the other side is full of opportunities and luck. I guess, I am not in that category. Thanks.

Hi deepak, nice discussion. This is an old belief of human nature. It is our nature that we always think that others are more rich, more lucky and more happier than us. We try so hard to achieve something and once we have got it, we don't find anything much exciting about it and start loosing interest in it. It is said that nobody is pefect and fully satisfied in this world. There are poor people who have no food to eat.....and there are rich people who have enough food but no health to enjoy his food and money. There are married healthy couples who keep fighting while there are abnormal or physically handicapped couples, yet very happy in life. The day man will learn to be satisfied with what he has, the greener will be the grass on his side and he will never have to go to other side to enjoy it. But it is very easy to preach all this and very difficult to actually practice it........well we are humans and we will remain humans........have a nice day.

Yes, those who do not feel contended in their life, always feel that grass is greener on the other side. Satisfaction is key to healthy life...when we realise that we need to be satisfied with whatever we have...then only...life start runnning smoothly. Excellent response. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ rated.

It happens Deepak, all the time, every where and to everybody. Because we, human beings are not satisfied with what we have at hand and yearn to get more and more and more. But when you actually get what you want only you will realize, there is no difference. I think if you learn to be satisfied by what you have and not try to compare yourself with the people around you, you will have peaceful mind and can have a better life.

Well, I believe that it is because in the reflections of the light. I have notice that before and do not pay attention to it. i believe that there is nothing wrong with the grass, and with your eyes its just the way the lights reflect when I am away from the other side of the fence makes the grass more greener...

Personally, I often feel grass indeed look greener on the other side of the fence. Perhaps it is because of the distance we are in. What we see is a wide horizon and the helicopter perception makes us feel the big patch of grass is greener. It is only when we reach out for it that we realise it is no difference from the grass under our feet. It is all our perception, nothing but our own thoughts, beliefs and experiences.

Hi Deepak! I really dont have any experiences to discuss, mainly because I have never really looked to cross the fence to see! I think evertying in life is not what it really appears to be. Yeah it make look nice and posh, but really everyone has problems, and most times more severe than the ones that you have. I do what I can to be thankful for the life I have, not worry about what everyone else has and just be happy. Thats tough enough in itself. Bay Lay Gray xx

Yes, this is old adage. It happens mostly for young people when they are in the beginning of their career. They select a job, they feel other company pays better, they resign this and go for other. They keep on changing the job. Ultiamtely the amount what they get from a new company is almost same as what they would have got earlier.

Yes. It happened in my childhood. There was a hill adjacent to our quarters. It stretched for a quite lot of distance. When we, the children climb the terrace and see, it used to look like green. Once we all went to see how it looks like, and to our utter dismay we found that it is full of rocks and earth and greenery here and there. From then I understood the meaning of distance greenery. Even in life people look very friendly and amicable from a distance. When you actually move with them closely, their true nature is seen. This is called Distance Greenery ( in tamil doorathu pachai).

They say that the grass may be greener on the other side, but someone still hast to mow it. I am a deep thinking person. I will consider every option that comes to mind. By the time I am through, I have usually decided that I should stay where I am. Now, don't get me wrong. I have been forced to move and make a lot of decission that I did not want to. Or felt that I was not ready for, but for the most part everything turned out okay. I am not the type to look at others with strong envy. I look at it like this, I don't know what they had to go through to get where they are and I do not know what they will have to endure before they leave. So, I am happy living my life where I am.

You don't mean the grass itself? It happened to me before, i hate my present job before because it was super multitasked kind of job. So i decided to just quit it and find another. Good thing i had found a job that easy, but only to found out that my new job was so super multitasked than my previous job. I was so pissed of, and quit that job after a month. I don't know but some employers i have been require multitasked jobs, i accept job because it is not new to me to be a multitasked person, only to find out it was a super heavy mega multitasked workload.

Hi dpk262006! I have always thought so before because I have seen so many people who made it big and have been living a comfortable life when for example they go abroad and work. However, I came to realize that not everyone can have the same opportunity and luck. Years before, I went abroad and studied and at the same time worked, I soon realized that it is also the same as you have in your own backyard, the only difference is you are paid in a currency that is multiplied by almost 40-80 times greater than my own currency back home. I soon saw the plight of other migrant workers who have to hold 2-3 jobs just to have a decent living condition and at the same time send money back home. Most of my countrymen who have migrated abroad to work are degree holders and college graduates but are working as domestic helpers, carers, nannies and construction workers. Well, can't blame them because they want to alleviate their families' standard of living but to some unfortunate ones, most have bad experiences and went home in tears and their future destroyed. So, i realized that if i just have a good business sense, work hard for my endeavours and have some luck, I know I will make it here in my home country however poor our economy is. Just my thoughts and take care. Have a nice day. :)

One of the excellent responses, I have ever seen. Very very interesting and thoughtful response by you. Full marks to you. Your experience and observations should teach us a lesson that grass if not always greener on the other side of the fence. Things would also be same everywhere, with minor changes or more or less some plus or minus points. Have a great day! +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ rated.

Isn't it funny that life seems easier, nicer, wealthier on the other side of the fence, except your fence. Now matter how blessed people think you are, you are sunk in your own misery and misfortunes which people doesn't even know but would comment how good your life are, when in fact its not and you see other people living the LIFE you want only to find out that your in the same side. Most people here in our country love to migrate to USA, life seems better there than here, so when opportunity strike for me to try living in the State for 3 weeks, I've decided that I like our country the Philippines better. Here we have maids to clean up after our mess, cook for our dinner, answer unwanted phone calls, get to do those chores that you dont like to do, whereas if you live someplace elase, this service comes with a steep price. Of course we pay our househelpers, but its not that much compare to other countries. So I guess every side has its pros and cons. Of course you get to earn more dollars somewhere, and keep more for retirement compare to our country.

Actually I never went to the other side of the fence yet to see if the grass was ever greener. But I do think that there is always a alternative to things in life and it may not be the best one, but it will help you in the long run.
