Today I am another year older, but when do you stop counting your birthdays?

Celebration time - Time to celebrate
November 23, 2007 6:55am CST
The past year has been something of a wild ride, with all the highs and lows of a roller coaster. I have taken some time to reflect and realised that over the years I have seen so many changes. Kennedy assassination The Beatles England winning the World Cup Man walking on the Moon Science Fiction becoming science fact Mobile phones The Internet so many amazing events over the years since I was born. But now, when I think of how fast the pace of life is now, all the advances in modern technology, the sadness and heartache in this world, the pain and suffering of the innocent, I wonder if perhaps I should stop counting the years and simply watch as the world changes. Maybe I should take a step back and attempt to grow old gracefully instead of living life to the full? Should the slippers and a cup of cocoa replace the clubbing and Jack Daniels? Should I settle for life in the slow lane or continue with life on the high speed road? How do you feel as the years go by? What do you remember from your early years?

I have lived through the same changes as you plus the bombings, rationing, etc... all the horrors of WWII. Now I am growing old gracefully as far as appearance is concerned but live my life according to how I feel at the moment..sometimes partying and othertimes a nice evening at home with the TV. One thing I will not do is settle for anything as there is always something new ahead to experience be it good or bad.

Like you, hun, I don't want to settle for anything, there are so many wonders still be be discovered in this world. I remember the sweet rationing, even though I was very young then, when my Dad would buy us a small bar of chocolate on a Friday night and cut it into four pieces so we could share it.

Happy Birthday to you my friend. Many things have changed over the years. Who could imagine that many years ago that you and i would be able to communicate this way without even having to see each other face to face and on top of that, not even know each other in real life.

Thank you for your good wishes hun. This is a truly amazing medium really, something I never imagined when I was a child.

I'm another year older today too goth! I tell people that JFK has ruined my birthday every year since I was 10, tho I have to admit, I only heard one tiny mention yesterday so I guess he isn't ruining this year. And since I never did the clubbing and jack daniels, I can't advise you. All I can say, is don't look foolish. Nothing is sadder than someone making a fool of themselves - look at Britany Spears. I'd say, if you like clubbing & Jack Daniels, just don't try to "break dance" or whatever the new fad is, all the young people think your a fool, like that old guy with the "hip" clothes and the combover.

Happy Birthday hun :-) I will probably wear my favourite long black medieval style dress to the club, and my dancing is usually pretty sedate these days anyway. I love the old guy comment, it reminds me of my ex-husband LOL

HEllo recycledgoth. First let me say Happy Birthday to you, my dear friend. Yes, as years go by, we have experienced many different kinds of stages in our life, which is considered as some kind of wealth that we have gained. I just hope that time will move slowly so that we could still enjoy more of the young stage of life. lol

Happy birthday! Well, there were many things going on in the early years. I feel that I've really obtained and experienced many things during these years. I've been to many places and see different styles of life and wonderful landscapes. I know more friends and have experienced more of our society. When I was young,I was always counting my birthday and wanted to grow up as soon as possible.Nowadays,I was not that excited to count my birthdays but I still count. It's always good to celebrate our birthdays:) Have a nice day!

Happy birthday my friend. You have indeed been witness to many milestones in life. We all come across so many important things, but only a few learn from those. We are getting increasingly busy in life - busy to die early!! and this shocks me like anything. I do not know what will come to me when I reach your age but I feel I would take recluse like the 'lotus eater' and enjoy life to the fullest. Whatever you decide I am sure you will enjoy being in that state. Wish you many more birthdays to come when you would love your life like never before. You be our sweet heart forever.

After I turned 21 is when I stopped counting. I don't really worry about it too much anymore. Sometimes it is weird to think about, but then I move on. The Eagles having their first album is 28 years is cool to me since I grew up listening to them.

First, Happy Birthday! Second, don't let a number on your birth certificate stop you from doing what you want to do with your life. In a world where there are 80 year olds graduating college and child prodigies, your age has Nothing to do with the your choices in life. All you need is the will and the passion to do it and you can do anything at any age. When you think of it, there is a age limit the other way, society tells you when you are too young to do things and not when you are too old. I stopped keeping track of my age when I was 19.each time someone asks my age, I literally have to count back.I was lucky, I got to do what I wanted when I was in high school.I never had to either wait to be old enough or race to do it before I was deemed too old.I wish you happiness on this day and the days to come. I hope you have something fun planed today and tonight. you should celebrate your birthday, not dread it.Follow Your Bliss.

The interest in counting birthdays loose its importance in our life as we grow, 'coz we are surrmounted with a lot of problems and we dont have time to come out of it and rejoice. When one problem subsides, it paves way for a new one and therefore we are less interested, in this aspect. And Many more returns on this day recycledgoth. I pray god that you have a long and healthy life. Take care friend:)

It's that feeling you get when you look at the top downloads on Itunes, and mutter to yourself "I don't like any of that sh*t." It's that feeling you get when when something new that a majority seem to enjoy simply holds no appeal for you. It's that feeling you get when you realize there just isn't that much worth leaving the house for anymore. It's not midlife crisis, more midlife malaise. And while that sounds unhealthy, it's not- it's just the way things are. The longer you are around for, the less things impress you.
