Do You Enjoy Giving Away Things?

I really enjoy cleaning out my closets, giving things to Goodwill or The Salvation Army, or in some cases, just throwing things away. Does anyone else feel that way? It's just so therapeutic for me. It's like getting rid of a bunch of dead weight, and at the same time, maybe giving something back to others who might want it.

You should check out freecycle.com. It's the place I go to when I have things I want to give away. People post what they need and what they have to give away this way if someone needs something they get it for free. I've done both give away and recieved a few things that I've needed. Check it out!

Hi cblack, I've been doing this for years, I'm old, haha. I am on a limited income so I also buy from both places, then recycle it back if it's still in good condition. It's fun and I've bought some clothes with brand new tags on them, very inexpensive.
Where I lived, the apartment managers were a very young couple, not much money, but very happy and very nice. When I moved a few months ago, I left a ton of stuff for them (I do crafts, extra Christmas stuff, books, clothes, small tables, you name it), as they have two garage sales every year. They were so happy to get that stuff and I enjoyed it immensely. He carted it all off in a dolly with a big smile on his face, haha.

That was extremely kind and generous of you. It's good to be in a position to do sort of thing for others. I too have started shopping more at thrift stores and consignment shops. You can find some really nice pieces there, some as you said, brand new with the tags still on. Goodwill will even take old computers, monitors, etc...and rebuild them to resell, so don't throw them in the garbage.

What a nice morning surprise cblack! Thanks so much for Best Response.
The situation I was in when I gave them all those goodies was that I had been laid off in December (2006), right before Christmas of all the luck, and I had to move in May because I couldn't afford the rent anymore. I was moving to my sister's basement, which is where I am right now. I couldn't find full time work anywhere, or at least a decent wage....it was one of the worst experiences I've ever been through. No one wants to hire you anymore if you're 60. It's been rough.....long story.
But anyway, Thank you again for your kindness and have a great day!

I find it much easier to get rid of clothes by donating them than by throwing them away. The best I ever felt about getting rid of stuff was when I had opportunity to send a whole car load to a homeless shelter sponsored by my church, in the Chicago area. To be honest, many of my clothes are purchased at thrift shops, and in that way I also contribute to the charities that they are funding. It is win-win. I give to them, I buy from them, I help people have jobs.

Funny, I end up doing the same thing. Like, I take donations and I end up in their store shopping. Sometimes I find really nice designer clothing at dirt cheap prices.

I always let family go through things first. Then we take them to the local thrift store. I love to help others. Years ago, we did alot of yard sales but we have not had a yard sale in about 8 years. We just give it away

I no longer have a yard to do that in, but I too feel good about giving things that I think others need or want, and at the same time, clearing my clutter.

I am not that eager to clean out my closets unless I find the clothes no longer fit me, are the wrong color, I no longer need the books or the stuff. I am not thinking of helping someone, and I get no glow of self-worth. You see what I had obtained took a lot of work for me to get. I figure if you have to work hard to get something, you find it harder to give it away.
I do figure that someone else could use it, that someone else might look good in that sweater, and have the color for it, that someone else might like those tapes, that box, etc.

Hi cblackink! I do feel the same way. Whenever i clean out my closet, i separate all the clothes that can be of good use to others and give them away to people who would want them. I feel good afterwards because I know that things that i don't need can still be useful to other people, then it won't have gone to waste. take care and have a nice day. :)

I learned recently that cloth can be recycled, which I hadn't heard of before. In other words, even if you donate clothing that the charity deems can't really be resold, they send it to a recycling place. Sometimes though, I end up throwing a few pieces away just because they look so crappy.

It is, and a lot of the stuff I give is in great condition, I just have no use for it any longer.
