Since I have seen a couple of posts on here soliciting votes for their poem, I thought I would join the crowd and ask any of you who are interested in poetry to vote for my poem. It is entitled Woman, and can be seen at the following link:

If your poem was being submitted anywhere else but the place you have chosen, I would rate and encourage you to win; HOWEVER the address of the company you are submitting your poetry too is, unfortunately, part of a huge scam.
Contact poetry.com today
Our street address is: poetry.com
1 Poetry Plaza
Owings Mills, MD 21117
I received an "Outstanding Editor's Choice award" from The National Library of Ppoetry, also located in Owings Mills, MD doing business as poetry.com They pick your poem out of hundreds, publish it in a leatherbound book, expect you to attend a dinner, conference, awards ceremony at $500.oo per person AND your poem engraved with name, date, isbn, and framed ! Or, you can just send $50.oo (3 monthly payment installments of folks ! )for the book !
Well I got the book, a small award, but the poem was never copyright protected and after having their logo on it, I can never re-sell it, re-print it, or do anything I want with it . . . cannot even sue because I won an award !
If your poetry is good, and Woman coming in as a good poem, I discourage you from sending it to fraud-influenced poetry scraphouses like poetry.com in Owings Mills, MD.
I just care to not see you get ripped off and treated like a buyer instead of an authentic writer . . .

Unfortunately I too have been told that this site is a scam, since contributing my poem I get dozens of emails from them to part with my money! A few people sadly have been caught out and have lost a lot of money from this site. The more people that are warned the better. I have contributed a poem but thankfully haven't parted with a dime.

My thanks to all who gave wonderful advice in re poetry.com. I am familiar with them for some time now and would never consider sending them a dime to have anything published. My poetry is something I do as a hobby and have only submitted a couple of poems to them.

wordwise, orions belt (i know I spelled that wrong), everyone here . . . I just submitted a poem at Pedestal Magazine and I encourage, as soon as I get word of acceptance, to place your stuff there. You will not be 'giving away' your material and all rights revert back to author after initial publication. My agent gave me a thumbs up and she has been in the business roughly 30 years. I take her recommendations very seriously and will pass it to others as soon as i know !
Thank you for the feedback on poetry.com, it is a real shame they have been misrepresenting good work by great people and experience tells me to tell others: keep out of that arena ! Your work is too good for them !!!

Yes, 3lilangels, the site is not entirely on the up-and-up, but you can get a bit of exposure there. Thank you.

Thank you, wolfie! It was just a little something I dashed off at the spur of the moment. I don't really take the site seriously, and neither should you.

This poem was well written. I gave you a 10 for it. I hope you win it. I might try it. I haven't wrote any poems in a while though. Most of mine were about sadness or anger. i think to help me get over things. So that's not really good.

That is the reason writing, whether it be poetry or prose, is so therapeutic, Shaun, it helps to relieve the stress. So, I would advise you to continue writing whatever you like, but you could also venture out into new territory. Good luck!

Your vote is greatly appreciated, pyewacket. Poetry has always been something that comes naturally to me. I might leave it alone for a short time but I always come back to it.

I'll give it a 10 with a bullet, barehugs, LOL. It does sound kind of familiar though. Thanks for the vote.

I voted and gave you a 10 before I read the other posts here and I must admit I'm very disappointed. I've also got a poem I was going to ask for votes for and I guess I felt pretty proud of myself for having won an award but I guess poetry.com is a scam. Your poem is very good and quite worthy of the prize. I hope we haven't both been scammed. I didn't give them any money although I get e-mails daily with offers for the book and to join some poets' organization. I passed on all of that figuring if I win the grand prize I'll buy the book. Oh, well, great poem and good luck with it! Wish me luck too.

Thank you, anniepa, and do let me know where to find your poem. Like I said in a previous response, it's something to do and you might get some exposure. I know enough about them that I would never pay them money for anything.
