at home, yes, so that the dirt from the soles of your shoes won't enter the house. but in shops, i don't think so.

Hello, smartbrain! here in India this is the practice that when you come from outside you are required to leave your shoes out side the main entrance of the home so that the polluting elements that might have stuck to the shoes may not go in to the rooms and pollute the room atmosphere.we Indians believe that God or Goddess live in the house or in shops so these places are more auspicious so we never allow shoes inside house or in shops as in temples.this has scientific background no doubt.thank you.

In japan they are telling us to remove our shoes when entering any house or restaurant .. Here my hubby wants us to remove out shoes and dont use them inside.. And its good too you give respect to your own home.
