Contrary to old Hank it is not all about drinking and rollin smoke. I was thinking about the up coming holidays and while I realize that not everyone here celebrates Christmas. I started a family tradition a few tears back and thought that I would share it.
Every year I hear people complain that Christmas has become far too commercialized and that they don't like it. That it takes away from the meaning of it which is supposed to be a celebration of Christ's birth.
My solution : Every year we bake a cake for Jesus's Birthday and celebrate it as a birthday. Of course we still do the tree and gifts but the rule is three gifts each ( what jesus received ). I think that it helps to keep the focus on the real meaning of Christmas.
How bout you any traditions that you have started ?

1st off let me say hello to my fishin buddy how've ya been ? anyway about chrismas, although i don't like to see x-mas display's before holloween i don't let it effect me i go on the same way as i did 40 year's ago,a "real" tree not some 200 dollar one you just plug in we injoy looking for trees and when i lived up north by you we used to go out and cut our own but here in florida we can't do that but we still have a real tree.all the family comes over from far away and we get togrther and celebrate jesus' birthday, and the one's that can't make it we fly out and visit them because of their age.i'm not what you call a very religious person but i believe in god and jesue christ and if i don't make it to church tha often i just ask his forgiveness.-------have a happy my friend

Hey max I see your back too... I've been good. Have not been able to much fishing lately. Took a job as a manager for a dry cleaning franchise and that has kept me busy. And it is getting colder now, But rain, shine, sleet, snow I am going next weekend.
Anyway sound like a great way to spend the holidays

I think that's a wonderful tradition...not only the birthday celebration but the gift idea too. Christmas has become to much about how much you buy, spend, give then anything else. I miss the days when I was kid and we were just happy to have a tree and couple of gifts and our family with us.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Thanks for the compliment. A few years ago I was just tired of hearing the complaints as well as the pressure of trying to please everyone and make a mound under the tree as big as the tree itself so hence the new tradition.

Oh, what a wonderful family tradition - I'm going to copy you and start that with my family. I know some kids that wont be happy but like others I am so sick of people forgetting the true meaning of Christmas.
