Your work is marvelous! I am envious of anyone who can do such intricate work.

Thanks you for the tip. Do you use a simple knife to carve the wood ?
What can you do if you only have branches ? Is there any way to process them into one big piece of wood to make big pieces of arts ?

These are great curvings out there Adoniah, I like work of Art though am not an Artist myself. A friend of mine makes a living doing just aret work and he lives a very comfortable life. Tourists are his best customers.

I did a reply to your other discussion about woodcarving...that really is a beautiful piece. I love the "smell" of wood and working with wood too, which I did a bit in my college days. Is woodcarving hard to do?
I do craftwork as well, but ones on a Native American theme, like dreamcatchers, Native styled teddy bears, suede pouches, jewelry and so forth
Here's a picture of my little Swift Bear

Beautiful! That is one handcraft I haven't done... yet! I've always wanted to carve, but with all the other sewing, needlework and papercrafting supplies I have, there is no room! I love seeing what other people do with their hands... so many of these talents and arts are being lost. We can either keep doing them to have examples of what handmade really means... or it will all just be old pictures on the internet, and no one in the future will actually know what it feels like to CREATE! You keep doing your part, I'll keep doing mine!LOL!

I know this respond is a little late, but, I would like to create things from wood and I don't know anything about it. I remember someone had a simple wooden stick and he carved the stick until it got a figure of a hand with a fist and the left finger points forward. It took a lot of time and it looked so nice. Like a small sculpture.
How can one start carving with wood ? I want to make a wooden mask like an warrior or something like that. I play a computer game with monsters and I get some inspiration to make some of the monsters with wood. I don't know how to start at all.

The best way to practice without spending a lot of money, is to get an exacto knife and a bar of soap and practice with these. I have taught a lot of folks to carve in soap. If you do not like it or decide not to do it, you can still take a bath and the knife is handy for lots of things...

Thanks a lot, I will try carving with that knife. But, I will also need some wood pieces that are easy to carve.
Do you know the kind of wood that is easy to carve ?
Maybe I will also use some pulp and paper. It will be easy to design some shapes.
