Do you reuse glass jars?

My Father used to nail the covers of jars to the basement beams. Then put nails and screws or washers and screws in the jars and then screw them to the ceiling. Large jars, cat food, dog food, flour, sugar, cereal, pasta, any food we don't want mice and bugs to get into. Small jars, refrigerator jam. Boil some eggs and put them in the juice of pickles or kielbassa sausage juice and in the frig for a few days. Dried herbs and spices, dried seeds for next year, anything dry. Small amounts of paint made with powder and water like tempera paint for children, better in plastic jars. Unused glue if that's a make your own from dry, too. Buttons, we always have a button jar and one for zippers and one for appliquez or anything we take off clothing. Should start one for pockets for pocket purses. The great thing about our house is that we have a big cellar where we can store glass jars until we need them. Take care and I hope everyone helps you find new uses. Take care.

Yes, yes, yes and oh heck yes! Reuse, Reduce, Recycle! I do use glass; but the only plastic I use is the non-disposable plastic that has been around for over 60 years! I take canvas bags to grocery stores and to Walmart. It just takes one person making one step and asking one more person to make one step. ~Donna

I always reuse my jars, no matter what size. Large, gallon sized jars from pickles or something like that are cleaned and reused for making suntea. Smaller sized jars, like from jelly or other such things are reused for odds and ends in my kitchen, or are stored under my kitchen sink in case I need a jar for something. And the smallest jars, like baby food or the likes, end up in my husbands workroom filled with nuts and bolts, small nails, washers, and whatever else he can put in them. We also save all empty coffee cans and anything else that can be reused.

I use the jars you get spaghetti sauce in for my reconstituted milk powder, and the jam jars for my home made jars. AS lot of our stuff comes in plastic jars so I store my dried food in them. I do not have a baby so I have gotten rid of all those small jars, and most of my jars I recycle, but I find the lids of the pickle jars very handy as a cookie or biscuit cutter as they are the right size. We do not buy much jam now though and I have a tupperware box to keep all my small things in anyway and my husband is a handyman and much of the nails and screws come in recyclable boxe.

we do, and we use them for many things. to store small implements in, to store leftovers in whether for the fridge or freezer, to mix up juices in, to drink out of.... to store milk in. I even use the pint sized jars to shake up pudding or blend an egg for baking.

I reuse glass jars to store things in.I also use them to shake up flour and water to make lump free gravy. If I get nice pretty jars I use them to make homemade candles or gift mixes in jars for presents for friends and family.

I reuse my glass jars. I have lots of glass jars and when I have too many, I buy refill packs of stuff that I can buy and use the bottles to store them. Yes, I also use the baby food jars to store tiny beads and paper (torn based on colour) for craft work for my son. I usually buy big refill packs of things which are not perishable and transfer how much I might need in a month to a glass jar.

I have seen my wife reusing the glass jars. We buy pickles and olives in jars. She keeps the jar for later use.

In south india the plastic jars and glass jars used for mainly domestic kitchen purposes such as keeping them with spices,cereals,groceries and sugar items. Towards baby eatables we will keep those cookies snakes and etc., By wasting those plastic and glass jars the waste godown persons make fire with them and polluting the air. If we can reuse will be useful for everybody and to globe.

Hi Lillake, my mom loves jars and glass bottles. After the food is consumed, she makes sure she wash them and remove the labels. She use some for her sewing kit to keep buttons, needles, threads and pin cushions. Some she use to put pepper, minced garlin with olive oil, milk, sugar and more things in the kitchen. There are times my brother ask for a few jars for his tools such as screws, nails, small wires/cords... :)

Hi Lillake, I sure do! I keep the medium sized pickle and pepperccini jars that get emptied. I just washed one out the other night, its perfect size for a drink! I have kept smaller ones in the past to hold certain things or to keep something sorted. Its pretty handy! I reuse anything that I can. Like butter tubs or sour cream tubs. They make good leftover containers or to send food with someone. I dont want to give away my good containers or anything like that. lol Do I sound too frugal?? Bay Lay Gray xx

i normally reuse the jars.after the jelly or pickles or any other thing is finished,i normally wash the jars with hot water and dry it in sun so that there is smell.then i put whatever loose item i have like putting some cookies which i recently prepared or some snacks that i recently purchased.i noramlly make the jar more decorative by wraping it with some coloured paper.

Yeah, I often reuse the glass jars .Usually, I reuse the large glass jars to store the cooking oil,salt,sugar,etc.., and some small to store buttons,nails,pens,etc,...But if I use one of them to store one of these kinds,I don't use it to store another things next time.

Yeah. You know one of my students give me a gift just the other day. It was actually a padded jar with red cloth covering the entire jar. The cover has also the same color as to the body. Then it has lace with gold piping that extend from side to side. And a red ribbon about 1/2 inch tied into its neck. I was surprised when i found out that it was just a jar, a decorated jar. Then to satisfy him, i ask my co-teachers to order from him. He was happy actually when he found out of some orders. You know a lot of people are really creative in creating such things and we should appreciate it so that they could create more and their skills be honed. yeah we do but we just stopped collecting them coz its piling up.

I usually buy kitchen provisions once a month and usually get them in refil packs.So as I need containers to store them all in, I reuse these containers. For the masala packets I can use the pickle jars. The bigger containers can be used for the flours like wheat flour, rice flour, gram flour etc.
