Are Charm Bracelets for real?

Are they? My friends the other day bought "charm bracelets" (they call them). And they spent quite a huge amount of money for them. They believed that those bracelets have sort of some charms to attract things. Is it true? Or is it just all in the head? I've heard of positive attitude attracts positive things. But why do we have to buy such expensive accessories if we intend to attract things? Or is it just the though of buying charm bracelets give us a positive attitude? Well, those charm bracelets were cute, though. But expensive... But are they for real?
