What could happen to my passport info?

I have given away my passport number and a scan of the identification page of the passport to someone through email. Now I fear that person could do something bad with the information. What could happen, and what can I do to prevent it happening?

In the first place you don't have to gave your information if you don't know the person. be careful nowadays because there are so many bad person roaming around. You have to be very careful with your own belongings.
