Is it more ethical to be vegan?

I attended a lecture at which a vegan activist insisted that it is morally and ethically wrong to be a meat-eater - that meat-eaters have a god-complex and believe that they can decide which animals die and get eaten and to what degree. Can it be ethical to be a meat-eater? Or is veganism the only moral way to go?

I guess, it depends what religion you have. Some religions don't allow eating meat. Roman Catholics are allowed. When you are on a diet, it is best to eat veggies. I guess, it's not with what we eat but with what we practice. Some animals are here to serve a purpose. We might not be able to understand why some religions don't allow eating meat but they have their own reasons. As for me, I do eat but in moderation.

One of the points he was trying to make is that humans have that god-complex.. that reasoning that "some animals are here to serve a purpose." To him, that's unfair of us to say and wrong. Because, the only reason these animals are here for us to eat them is because we bred them to be here. They wouldn't be here naturally.
I don't know about this topic in general.. but I think it's smart to eat meat in moderation.. but I could never delete it from my diet completely!

The vegan activist that spoke to you went about it wrong. To be so offensive as to say "meat-eaters have a god complex" isn't a very good way to spread the word of veganism. Nearly every vegan has been omni at one point or another.
As far as that goes, though, I think that once someone is fully and completely aware of what goes on in factory farms, once they've seen it, once they KNOW what it happening and they still make the decision to eat meat...it's a matter of self-discipline.
My position on eating plants is that as far as we know, they don't have central nervous systems...they don't bleed or cry, they don't cradle or nurse their young, and they don't have emotions. Aside from that...I need to eat plants to live. I don't need to eat meat to live.
