I use teflon pans for the nonstick purpose, but I have heard that if they are heated for too long, than they emit a toxic fume. Is this true?

No way, that's true. tsk,tsk.. I kinda prefer using teflon coated pans, easier clean up. Guess I'll just to have to switch to stainless steel pans one of these days. If only they weren't so expensive. =(

I remember so long ago hearing about this warning about Teflon pans, but they really never gave us a clear reason for this. I however never liked Teflon, because I did not think it really cooked food that well, and the pan wore out to quick.

I use them, I have heard by a study that they did here about the fumes, but in general, they are quite safe, the temperature that the pans need to be heated to will not be reached by normal everyday stoves, they just dont reach the temperature required to reach these dangerous levels ...

yes, teflon is not a desirable surface for cooking on (or at least it shouldn't be) since heating them up can produce toxic fumes that will kill pet birds and who knows what it can do to us - how many cancers might have been produced by the use of teflon? check out this website for pertinent information regarding teflon use. http://www.ecomall.com/greenshopping/teflon4.htm

I use teflon pans when cooking. I have also heard that they can emit a toxic fume if heated to a high temperature. I make sure I do not turn the heat up too high on the pan when I am cooking to avoid this.
