the four years colleage student

We have a saying that, lots of the colleage students have wasted their time in their four year colleage studying. This is what people graduated found out to describe the situation:
As a fresh, u don't know that u don't know.
As a sophomore, u know that u don't know.
As a junior, u don't know that u know.
As a graduate, u know that u know.
I just translate it into english roughly, hope u know what it means.

i am sorry but i have never heard about the chinese version.BTW i learnt someone describing college years in the titles of Lu Xun's works.I can't recall all of them correctly but i remember that for the senior:Rememberance(zhao hua xi shi).the two ways of commenting college years,i think,focus on different aspects.the one you mentioned concerns studying,and mine deals with life and the process of growing up.anyway,after several years in college,i've learnt a lot and it is like a turning point from which i go to maturity:)

i don't know what i would be like if i hadn't went to college,but i do think college life is a special experience.when i say college i mean college where there is an atmosphere of freedom and academy,not just a continuing of studying afer high school.
