I was helping my 5th grader with his math homework last night, or should I say trying to help him with his math homework. I begin to show him how to do the problem and he tells me "That's not the way we do it."
I say "Well, you can do it that way and get the answer."
Then he says "Well Ms. bla bla bla told us to do it another way."
And that was the end of that, my husband helps him with his math now.
Everything has to be new and improved.

Yes it's very different now very advance in everything that's why sometime if we try to help them the things we know were very different but if you try to do it its the same in mathematics there is a steps to follow in solving a problem (solution) but if you can prove how you arive in the same answer they will consider it.

I love watching that show and I admit, some days I'm not smarter than a 5th grader.
That was also a loooong time ago for me. I've slept a lot since then and basically the only thing I can do from school is add, subtract, multiply and divide and that's about it.

I'm happy because now I'm much smarter than me at 5 grade. You should be proud if you 5 grader is smarter than you. I believe he will be a genius when his is as old as you now :-)
